DW: Macron proposes security pact to make Europe a 'power of the future'
President Emmanuel Macron has outlined priorities for France's presidency of the European Union. Speaking to EU lawmakers, he said the bloc must construct a new security framework amid tensions with Russia over Ukraine.
The European Union needs a new collective security pact to deal with NATO and Russia, French President Emmanuel Macron said on Wednesday.
"Europe today is confronted with escalating tension on our borders," Macron said in a speech at the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
"As Europeans, we need to collectively make our own demands and put ourselves in a position to enforce them," he added.

Somehow it is quite apt a Frenchman starts talks.
Good luck trying to enforce your demands when you are still dependent on Russian energy, and militarily weak.
I am always amused how a European puts on a NATO hat and talks about Atlantic solidarity to face off with Russia . Minutes later they take it off and wear a EU hat and promote European independence from the USA and working more closely with Russia.
Macron continues French comedy.
Macron is in competition with Erdogan for the gold medal of the stupidity, and he obviously make improvements for getting it.
My gut reaction is that Macron is a rat jumping ship. America looks weak and is weak, so Macron of the traveling lavender pants is more than willing to give Moscow its security demands so long as Moscow lets France and moi live.
Remember moi cried for help in north and west Africa and received none.
