President Biden Considering Sending Thousands Of U.S. Troops To Eastern Europe As Tensions With Russia Over Ukraine Escalate

President Joe Biden met with his national security team at Camp David on Saturday to discuss 'continued Russian aggressive actions toward Ukraine'

The president is also considering deploying warships and aircraft to NATO allies, in what would be a major shift from its restrained stance on Ukraine.

WASHINGTON — President Biden is considering deploying several thousand U.S. troops, as well as warships and aircraft, to NATO allies in the Baltics and Eastern Europe, an expansion of American military involvement amid mounting fears of a Russian incursion into Ukraine, according to administration officials.

The move would signal a major pivot for the Biden administration, which up until recently was taking a restrained stance on Ukraine, out of fear of provoking Russia into invading.

But as President Vladimir V. Putin has ramped up his threatening actions toward Ukraine, and talks between American and Russian officials have failed to discourage him, the administration is now moving away from its do-not-provoke strategy.

In a meeting on Saturday at Camp David, the presidential retreat in Maryland, senior Pentagon officials presented Mr. Biden with several options that would shift American military assets much closer to Mr. Putin’s doorstep, the administration officials said.

The options include sending 1,000 to 5,000 troops to Eastern European countries, with the potential to increase that number tenfold if things deteriorate. The officials spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk publicly about internal deliberations.

WNU Editor: The U.S. just abandoned Afghanistan, and now they want to deploy military forces and get involved in this mess!?!?!?

The sad part is that deploying only a few thousand US troops to the Baltic region and other parts of eastern Europe is going to have a negligible military impact, and the Kremlin knows that.

There was another way to have done this. To dissuade Russia from invading Ukraine.

The first part to avoiding what looks like an imminent hostile military exchange with Russia - would have been NOT to hobble the US energy sector and allow Russia to enhance their own. AT US expense. Using NATO countries as their de facto energy hostages (e.g.: Germany)

Americans are tired of these wars of choice. Like the massive 20 year AFG surrender he presided over.

Biden is doing this for no other reason but to improve his polling. Recent history shows that a convenient war will always help a drowning president. But this time its different. This time Americans are aware of the insanity of this.

NATO has no desire to absorb Ukraine. Its a corrupt, impoverished country with zero strategic importance other than to harass and provoke Russia, which feels like this is their last buffer against the decadent West. If you poke a paranoid, they get more paranoid.

And boy are we.

5000 troops is pointless, warships , subs and aircraft isn't.
Afghanistan was a guerilla war that noone could win, dismantling armour , sinking ships and downing aircraft is what the U.S is good at.
Thankgod the A10s are still in service and may prove their weight in gold again.

a war in Ukraine against Russia is also something the US can't win, but this time the casualties would be the highest seen since WWII

100,000 Russian troops come roaring across the border; 5,000 American troops are the speed bump. Putin is counting on a game of Chicken. With this Biden administration, who do you suppose is going to give way?

There are not 100,000 Russian troops arrayed against the Baltic countries. Those 100,000 troops are spread out over thousands of miles.

Add those thousands of troops to the nearby Polish and Baltic troops.
