After One Month Of War How Is Russia's Elites Responding?

Farida Rustamova, Faridaily: “Now we're going to f*ck them all.” What's happening in Russia's elites after a month of war

Sanctions and propaganda have rallied even those who were against the invasion around Putin

“Since they adopted sanctions against us, we’re going to f*ck them. Now they’ll have to buy rubles on the Moscow Exchange to buy gas from us. But that's just the beginning. Now we're going to f*ck them all.”

So tells me, with enthusiasm, a high-ranking Russian official. He has long been a member of Putin's team, but has been considered a liberal thinker. A month ago he had a different attitude, saying with some chagrin that the most important thing was to stop the bloodshed in Ukraine, and then to figure out how to live in the new reality.

He wasn’t the only one. There are no “disloyal” people left in power in Russia. But civil servants, employees and heads of state companies, legislators, business elites close to the government — all were expressing, in private conversations, at least bewilderment at the invasion of Ukraine.

Please sell Crimea and D/L to Russia and bring this to a close. Uraine can use the money to rebuild. Putin can save face.

Zelensky and Putin will get the Nobel peace prize for this.

I recognize the WNU Editor's struggle to rectify his own conflicting views and emotions concerning the entire Big Picture. But it's not that difficult a choice. Someone is irrational and has evil intent with authoritarian powers. For now a significant majority of brainwashed Russians support that effort, especially those Russians living outside urban areas.

The War is becoming more complicated with each passing day. Putin will engage soon in loyalty purges all up and down the military officer ranks. It's the military that has the best knowledge of what is going on.

A huge development that could swing either way? President Biden's decision whether or not to send $Hundreds of Billions$ in highly advanced heavy-hitting weaponry in to the Ukraine. He's been against it. Putin sees that as weakness. Biden is under great pressure to do so. Would the Ukrainians use provided ballistic or cruise missiles to hit bases within Russia? Sure.
