CBS News: Top U.S. military officer expects Ukraine conflict to be "measured in years"
The highest ranking military officer in the U.S. said Tuesday that he expects the conflict in Ukraine to last years.
"I do think this is a very protracted conflict, and I think it's measured in years. I don't know about decade, but at least years for sure," Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley told the House Armed Services Committee Tuesday during testimony on the defense budget.
"This is a very extended conflict that Russia has initiated and I think that NATO, the United States, Ukraine and all of the allies and partners supporting Ukraine will be involved in this for quite some time," Milley said.

WNU Editor: I have been saying the same thing for the past two weeks. I can easily see the Russia - Ukraine war lasting two to three years.

If the war lasts that long it is only a matter of time before the pipelines are attacked and the gas sanctions are no longer optional.
Germany, Italy, France etc have no interest in an Afghanistan in their own backyard and their support will eventually hinge on some sort of negotiated deal.

Still there are bright points. Vanilley is the life of the party in any faculty lounge.
It could last "years." We don't "know" at this point. With that said I suspect it won't last much longer. I think when Ukraine falls it'll fall fast, kind of like a dam bursting. I hope I'm wrong.
I tend to agree with anon @ 10:03. If this continues, those countries mentioned will push for some type of negotiated settlement. Essentially they are going to tire of Ukraine.

You accuse me of attempted deceit yet you've made no effort to contact me or to follow the evidence I've presented here numerous times that easily verify all claims I make about myself. I would say this either makes you deceptive, lazy, or perhaps you make your decisions based upon ideology rather than careful analysis and study.
While isolating Russia makes for a neat talking point, a number of serious commentators have expressed reservations about the prospects of isolating a top oil and grain producer such as Russia. The editor has linked to this. Essentially I don't think it's feasible. I can see the opposite happening as the countries who didn't vote to condemn Russia move in Russia's direction. Furthermore it apoears you assume the "west" is monolithic and you overestimate it's power and ability to influence.
The Rouble and the Russian stock market apoear to have recovered. While they may not say so publicly, I think they're pricing in a Russian victory or are moving in that direction. Furthermore if Russia defaults on it's debt, the investors are going to blame America. In this case, extreme blowback against us is a real risk and the investors may not make a distinction between us and the leadership class.
We don't "know" the outcome at this point. While I hope Ukraine prevails, this doesn't seem likeky to me.
