U.S. Intelligence Publicly Involved In The info War Against Russia

NBC News: In a break with the past, U.S. is using intel to fight an info war with Russia, even when the intel isn't rock solid

“It doesn’t have to be solid intelligence,” one U.S. official said. “It’s more important to get out ahead of them [the Russians], Putin specifically, before they do something."

It was an attention-grabbing assertion that made headlines around the world: U.S. officials said they had indications suggesting Russia might be preparing to use chemical agents in Ukraine.

President Joe Biden later said it publicly. But three U.S. officials told NBC News this week there is no evidence Russia has brought any chemical weapons near Ukraine. They said the U.S. released the information to deter Russia from using the banned munitions.

It’s one of a string of examples of the Biden administration’s breaking with recent precedent by deploying declassified intelligence as part of an information war against Russia. The administration has done so even when the intelligence wasn’t rock solid, officials said, to keep Russian President Vladimir Putin off balance. Coordinated by the White House National Security Council, the unprecedented intelligence releases have been so frequent and voluminous, officials said, that intelligence agencies had to devote more staff members to work on the declassification process, scrubbing the information so it wouldn’t betray sources and methods.

Update: U.S. 'Intelligence' Says Its 'Intelligence' Is Bullshit (Moon Of Alabama).

WNU Editor: "In a break with the past" .... ?!?!?!? Are you kidding me!!!! U.S. intelligence has always been used to justify past U.S. government policy and actions. Need I remind everyone about "weapons of mass destruction".

But what is different this time is that the platforms that can be used to point out errors/discrepancies/and misinformation on the current war are making sure that different points of views that do not conform with the media/government narrative are banned/shadow banned/or suspended .... Scott Ritter's Twitter Reinstated After Suspension Over Ukraine Remarks (Newsweek). And in the case of Russian media, being banned outright.

And this censorship does not stop there. In the current conflict Youtubers and those who use Blogger (this includes WNU ) have already been warned by Google to not "exploit, dismiss, or condone the war". Translation .... do not question the prevailing narrative.

WNU Editor,

I commend you for doing an excellent job despite the criticism. I have followed your site for years and really enjoy you insights. Just like you I am an immigrant so I can relate to many of your concerns. I have to say I never expected the rabid anti Russian prejudice and outright hatred that would erupt so suddenly. My father who was a WWII prisoner would have been outraged but he passed away shortly before this started. I did tell him in December that the Donbass night flash into a full on war. He told me that I might soon be living in interesting times.

Anyway the media landscape is a twisted mess. I try to follow along mainly on Telegram and use Google translate since that's hard to get away from the censorship. In any event I am writing to wish you the best of luck and success in you venture. Keep up the good work!

There is basically no way to ensure psyops don't "come home" with the nature of the internet and instantaneous communication. CIA used to be able to pump out whatever stories it liked on radio free europe and it would never come back around to warp the american electorate in any meaningful way. The laws designed to prevent intelligence meddling with the American public are now impossible to abide, and by all accounts the CIA has given up trying.

"Need I remind everyone about "weapons of mass destruction". "

The KGB spread the lie that the US invented HIV and spread that lie around the world.

So Russia has clean hands.

"In September 1985, the Soviet State Security Committee (KGB) informed other Warsaw Pact foreign intelligence agencies that it had launched a new, major disinformation campaign. “We are carrying out a complex of [active] measures in connection with the appearance in recent years of a new dangerous disease in the USA known as AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome).” The KGB explained that “the goal of the measures is to create a favorable opinion for us abroad — namely, that this disease is the result of secret experiments by the USA’s secret services and the Pentagon with new types of biological weapons that have spun out of control.” Most likely, the KGB had initiated the disinformation campaign as early as 1983, but the September 1985 document — obtained by Christopher Nehring from the former Bulgarian State Security archive — is the earliest conclusive evidence that has turned up so far. (The former KGB foreign intelligence archive has never been accessible to researchers."

That is a blood libel worthy of a nuclear war.

Ritter denied there were WMDs. He has a poor track record, so if one goes 180 degrees from his position, one might arrive at the truth.

Hence why you've gotten very good at straddling the fence when it comes to supporting Russia. I'm not saying you are pro-war, you are very much against it. You are just in favor of a Russian 'settlement'.

I think for the sake of clarity the editor ought to make a clear statement on his feelings about the current Russian invasion of Ukraine. While we do know he has kin and friends in both nations, the claims at this site against him seem to suggest that his position on the war is insufficiently clear. Perhaps a simple statement might put an end to these assertions.

Do you have an alternate site for WNU in case Google shuts you down?

Decent take WNU. This does very much happen with other sides, certainly Russia as well but your points stand. The WMDs in Iraq resonate with me because I ended up deploying there in early 2004 for that. The censorship in this country has expanded and troubles me quite a bit. Now coming from coordination between the govt and media it's even more concerning.
During WW2 I look back and support *some of that, but not at all over this.
