Former U.S. Generals Say The Russian Army Is On The ‘Precipice Of Collapse’

Washington Examiner: Russian army on ‘precipice of collapse,’ say US generals as Russian retreat from Lyman marks tipping point in seven-month war in Ukraine

PREDICTION: PUTIN FACES 'IRREVERSIBLE’ DEFEAT: Russia’s retreat from a key logistics hub in Ukraine’s eastern Donbas region in the face of advancing Ukrainian forces is not only another embarrassing defeat for Russian President Vladimir Putin but may also mark a fundamental shift in momentum in favor of Ukraine, say former U.S. commanders. “No amount of shambolic mobilization, which is the only way to describe it, no amount of annexation, no amount of even veiled nuclear threats can actually get [Putin] out of this particular situation,” said retired Army Gen. David Petraeus on ABC on Sunday. “He is losing, and the battlefield reality he faces is, I think, irreversible.”

WNU Editor: Former Generals David Petraeus and H.R. McMaster are voicing what Putin's critics in Russia have been saying for months on how the Kremlin  is conducting the war in Ukraine. You cannot win if you do not have enough boots on the ground. An observation that even this blogger noted a month ago when after Russia's Kharkiv front collapsed it became known that Russia only had about 50,000 soldiers backed by about 100,000 Donbas militia along the entire 1,000 kilometer front.

Will Russia's mobilization of 300,000 additional soldiers to be deployed to Ukraine make a difference? Definitely. But this takes time. And I will not be surprised if next year another mass mobilization call will be made to deploy hundreds of thousands of more men.

Bottom line. Everyone that I know in both Russia and Ukraine expect this to be  a long war of attrition that will last into next year and even into 2024. If there is going to be a collapse, it is definitely not going to happen anytime soon.
