US Announces $400 Million More To Ukraine In Military Aid

Axios: U.S. announces $400 million in new military aid for Ukraine

The Biden administration announced a new $400 million military assistance package for Ukraine on Friday.

The big picture: The U.S. has now committed more than $18.2 billion in security aid to Ukraine since the start of the Russian invasion earlier this year, per the U.S. Department of Defense.

State of play: The new aid package represents the "beginning of a contracting process to provide additional priority capabilities" to Ukraine, per the Pentagon.

* Those capabilities include funding to refurbish HAWK air defense missiles, refurbished tanks, armored riverine boats, and explosive drones, among other things, as well as funding for "training, maintenance, and sustainment."

90 "badly needed" T-72B tanks from the Czechs. So much for the fantasy of having more tanks than they started the war with, eh?

Probably true 2 months ago when they stated that

The breakouts on Kharkhiv and Kherson enable the Ukrainians to capture a lot of Russian tanks.

So what fazman said is correct.

It's not so much Putin's desire to disengage from the current world order that I find fault with, but his methods leave a lot to be desired. If he wishes to propose some kind of alternative order, his approach suggests one characterized by chaos rather than order. Surely he can't be so stupid as to suppose a majority of nations will prefer his vision to what already exists.

The third world/global south are definitely receptive to his speeches in the last six months.

To them, "chaos" is a hegemon that rampages around to places like Iraq and Libya, assassinates their political and military leaders, and meddles in their elections.

What's unbelievable is that Washington can't understand why the non-aligned nations like India and South Africa are telling Blinken to pound sand. It used to be their job to understand the world outside our borders. Now all they seem to care about is exporting the globalist model.

You can accuse Russia and China of all the same types of brutality toward the 86% of the world that doesn't fall under the protection of the west's "golden billion", but free-market logic dictates that having a choice in hemispheric powers to align oneself with should yield more equitable results for all minor players, regardless of whichever is chosen. On that basis alone, a multipolar world is something the vast majority of the world will benefit from.

I'm curious why you think that the 6-7 billion outside "the collective west" wouldn't want to pursue a model that ultimately reinforces their own sovereignty based on simple self interest?
