Newsweek: Russian Commander Suggests Nukes as 'Only' Option to Win War
A Russian commander suggested that using nuclear weapons may be the only way Russia can be victorious in its war against Ukraine.
The remarks come more than nine months after Russian President Vladimir Putin launched the Ukraine invasion in February, hoping for a quick win against his Eastern European neighbor.
However, Ukraine's spirited defense efforts, bolstered by Western humanitarian and military aid, have blunted Moscow's military gains. Putin's troops continue to struggle to achieve substantial goals.
Throughout the tense conflict, concerns have emerged about whether Putin would order the use of nuclear weapons if he feels he has no other way to win the war or if the war grows into a greater conflict with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

WNU Editor: Donetsk Militia Commander Alexander Khodakovsky has been critical of the war since the summer .... Russian Commander Says He's 'Depressed' by How War Is Turning Out (Newsweek). And the basis for his criticisms is that most of the fighting and deaths in the war on the Russian side has come from the militias in Donetsk and Luhansk, Chechen fighters, and mercenary organizations like the Wagner Group.
In a nutshell. He is frustrated because he does not understand why Putin has not fully committed Russian military resources to the war while at the same time limiting the rules of engagement (i.e. not using strategic bombers, keeping the bulk of the Russian military out of the conflict, not destroying bridges, etc..). His argument is that if you are not committing the bulk of the military to win the war, you might as well use nuclear weapons.
Does he have a point?
He definitely does not have a point when it comes to nuclear weapons. But I understand that from his perspective he sees almost 400,000 Russian reservists that have been called up and who are now busy training. He also sees about 350,000 regular Russian military personnel in and around Ukraine. But of this massive army only a small portion of that force is actually involved in the fighting, while it is his men who are mostly getting killed. He clearly wants these reservists in the fight, and he wants them now.
So why are these Russian reservists and much of the Russia military being held back? Is it because the Kremlin wants to keep the bulk of their military held back because of NATO? Or is it because of another reason?
Then it dawned on me this morning. Moscow/Russia has always had a uneasy love/hate relationship with the Russian speaking populations in Luhansk and Donetsk. In my own personal life I have found these people to be the most stubborn and difficult to deal with. They have always been fiercely independent, and I learned early in life that they dislike rule from Kyiv just as much as they disliked rule from Moscow during the times of the Soviet Union. That is why a part of me wonders if the Kremlin wants to purposely bleed them now. To let the Donetsk and Luhansk militias battle the Ukraine army to the point that both sides become exhausted, and it is then that the bulk of the Russian military that is currently around Ukraine step in. This is just speculation on my part. But it explains and answers a few questions that have been swirling in my head for the past few months.

The Crimean bridge is going to get hit by drones just like the Russian air bases. The brigde is still not fully fixed. Crimea is going to be starved of ammo and petrol.

Carlson's distraction theory is interesting.
Myself I am tired of Russia's threats. Living through the 80s with the threat of the war was bad enough. I expected something like "Red Storm Rising" or nuclear war. You get accustomed to such things and prepare for them.
Now we are back. I am tired of Russian horseshit.
The russians have a lot of everything military wise but they are half ass trained. I'm surprised the russian subs haven't started blowing up. We'll see what happens.
