* Zelensky said Bakhmut city was now 'burnt ruins' in a public address on Friday
* Bakhmut, now consumed by the front line, used to be home to 70,000 people
* Much of Odesa remains reportedly without power after overnight drone strikes
Ukrainian President Zelensky said Russian forces have 'destroyed' the eastern city of Bakhmut in his nightly address amid a two-day aerial bombardment of the country.
Russia has reportedly conducted missile, rocket and air strikes across the country over the last 48 hours as it struggles to establish control of the regions illegally annexed in September.
Mr Zelensky said the situation remains 'very difficult' in frontline cities in the Donbas.

Zelensky will end up being exiled sooner or later. There is no situation where Ukraine can win, whatever that would even look like.
Winning would look like the front lines not moving muvh in the next 6months and the 300,000 new soldier expended. Putin would be gone
We are told that 150,000 of the 300,000 are already on the front lines. What is moving the front line at Bakhmut maybe is artillery. It is the same thing that moved it at Sivers'k. But after 4 months the movement has not been much unlike Sivers'k.
When that ground freezes, movement will pick will pick up a bit. I think the Russians are playing the long game here and are going to slowly grind the Ukrainian Army to dust, along with its population. Russia has energy and resources while it’s biggest ally, China, has the manufacturing base to keep the slow grind going for a very long time.
And no way Russia can win either… classic stalemate and Russia will eventually get tired..
Chima works for free, right?
Also when does China help, when they pay less for oil than the Europeans?
The Western globalists are not much better, but Puta is a true POS. The Soviet Union, oops I mean Russia, will not recover from this within our lifetime. As for China, it's top-down strategy will prove to be its Achilles Heel. No thinking outside the box, and everything it has, it has stolen. No imagination, no independent initiative, no autonomous think tanks. Dead nation walking. As for the West, the best we can look forward to is benign totalitarianism. And benign is not in the cards. Come, Lord Jesus.
Why the US and USSR will go to war. Because Joe is a marsh mellow. Sop Joe is not actually running things, TPTB because they are hiding behind the curtain are in effect no different than a marsh mellow either.
Joe is always a day late or a dollar short. Ukraine always gets the next weapons system but Washington drags its feet. That seemingly works to Moscow's advantage and they keep pressing on.
If Moscow's numbers begin to tell, Washington after supporting Ukraine for so long cannot afford to lose. They will see a severely weakened USSR rump state called Russia, which they cannot let win and which unlike the Taliban they cannot run away from.
So if Russia punches a whole at Bakhmut and causes a progressive collapse, Russia will be openly at war with NATO.
They are paying less than the Europeans, with deals from Russia! That’s the point, cheap energy for added wartime production capacity.
I agree. And Russia has yet to respond for that pipeline sabotage. There’s going to be some surprises next year and what will likely be a major, outside the sandbox escalation in this conflict.
6:19 - 6:25 A lot of moscow intern sock puppetry.
IF russia is making less profit ftom oil sold to china than it did to Europe, it means its profit margin is much smaller. It means they can buy less than before.
Maybe
Ever hear of the land lease program?
Who knows what agreements are out there to ensure military resupply between the Chinese and Russian. Common sense says the Chinese should be happy to give the Russians what they need. So some of the aid will be done behind the scenes .
Why would they do this?.
Because China's turn when they need help will be coming in the future ...Taiwan
So why piss the russkies off now by not giving them aid? The Chinese play a smart long game.
Don't be too quick to discount the conclusions above from the other posters. What they say has some validity.
Surrender then Zelenskyy! Haven't you stolen enough aid and money yet to make you a billionaire many times over? Surrender and allow the people to recover their lives. Next time do not poke the bear.
He should have followed minsk agreements and not listen to the USA. He would have saved a lot of lives.
But why care about that. He has his escape plan ,lots of money in foreign banks and a nice mansion somewhere that is not the Ukraine. When the ship sinks the rats leave.
Let's return to the subject.
A news report from newsweek interview with the head of the "Motzart" company.
They are working in the Bakhmut area. This guy ( a retired USMC col) says it is a disaster. Looks like Dresden. Ukrainian units attrited to 30% effectives. Dead and wounded everywhere.
Has anyone confirmed this?
Not like the Ukies had and manpower to spare.
Let me help
Not like the Ukies had the manpower to spare.
^^^^^^^
Look at all the russian sock puppets!
Wowsers!
Dey be trying awful hard to demoralize people...almost as if they have nothing but bluster.
30% effectiveness on sock say and yet ...Russians are not in Bakhmut.
ISW said the Russian might get Bakkmut. But after such an effort. Smells like Stalingrad with the Russians standing in for the German 6th Army
Better check your facts 1053.
Did you go to the Newsweek article published Dec 7th?
It's not the poster saying the attrition rate, you jackass. It is the colonel in the Newsweek article. Btw the colonel is supporting the Ukraine.
All the poster above was doing was asking if anyone could confirm this information.
But oh no ..instead he gets an idiot box answer for a reply. And your attempt at black southern English sucks.
So the question remains.
Were you born a arrogant idiot or did you work at it all your life? Now have your nurse wipe the drool off your face and slowly say .....
Slava Ukraine
jeez that was ugly
Jackwagon (11:33) I did not question the attrition rate. I noted the attrition rate and noted that the Russians still do not control Bakhmut jackwagon.
Learn how to read. Sometimes I swear Derf taught you.
I chose to use dey instead of they for a reason. Firstly, is my total disgust at you and your trolling. You want it. You get it.
Secondly, I am aware of Grimm's law. It comes in handy, when reading sometimes. Knowing of vowel or consonant shifts in history is interesting. Like knowing the Great Vowel shift from o to a. so knowing Tolkein becomes more readable.
Thirdly sometimes it is appropriate "Who dat?" is much funnier than "Who is that?"
Look at some old military year books of cartoons of nervous sentries. Seriously, if it is o dark thirty and your nervous you are going to skip the verb.
Fourthly, I will use any vernacular i wish from Southern, African American. Cajun, North eastern, Midwestern, Californian i want. Go Karen somewhere else.
'Who Dey?' vs. 'Who Dat?'
According to a Feb. 3 article in the Wall Street Journal, "the 'Who Dat' phrase has roots in vernacular poetry of the 19th century and was popularized by Black entertainers."

Boy you are one touchy jackass. BUT He was right. You painted everyone above at. 10:53 as some kind of Russian troll and that included the person who wrote about the Newsweek story that mentioned the attrition rate.
This was a blatant attempt to invalidate what he said.
Don't try to slime out of it with a bullshit followup dialog. Step up. Be a man about it and accept responsibility.
4:11 Russian troll is trying.
The 30% effective was taken for granted. What was pointed out even if you assume that that figure is true, Russia still does not have Bakhmut.
Embarassing.
Now skoda, you know you did not take anything for granted. You missed an important concept in the post and now you are back tracking to cover it up by saying "it was taken for granted"
We love you skods and are pulling for you. Your argumentation has improved as well as your logic methodology.
So don't screw it up now.
Mr 4:11 is just trying to help.. You want to be helpful, don't you?
Now repeat the litany three times
