* Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines said pace of the battle has changed
* The head of US intelligence said both sides are looking to 'refit, resupply and reconstitute' ahead of a possible Ukrainian counter-offensive in the spring
* Intelligence agencies doubt Russia will be able to meet this challenge next year
* Recent polling suggest Russian public support for invasion 'falling significantly'
The fighting in Ukraine is slowing as winter has blown in but the outlook is 'optimistic' for Volodymyr Zelensky's troops next year, the head of US intelligence has said.
Avril Haines said Russian withdrawals following a series of defeats in eastern Ukraine and the onset of freezing weather had changed the pace of the battle.
'We're seeing a kind of reduced tempo already in the conflict and we expect that's likely to be what we see in the coming months,' said the Director of National Intelligence.

WNU Editor: Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines has a take on the war that is not matching what is happening in the war. It looks like she is unaware that it is Ukraine, not Russia, that is begging for more weapons and ammunition while most NATO countries are pleading that they have no more to give. She is also not acknowledging that there are currently 700,000 Russian soldiers in or on the borders of Ukraine right now of which 300,000+ are fresh troops. And as for her remarks on Russian stockpiles of missiles. I have been hearing since April from Pentagon officials that Russia was running out of missiles. Clearly that has not been the case with another massive Russian missile barrage today.

WNU Editor makes some valid points. With re to Russia's missiles, however, I don't know whether or not they're running "low," but I'm fairly certain they are not being replaced at the rate they're being used. Even if they're using mostly older missiles, their total stockpile continues to shrink. As far as the West is concerned, that is at least somewhat good news.
700,000 troops and WNU sometime in the past com0lained that Ukraine had not been defeated because they had 800,000 troops.
Russian are losing 100 troops a day around Bakhmut. I hope WNU's virtue is worth it.
Better western weapons duh….
Such statements are the logical result of never holding national security officials accountable when they're wrong. John Bolton, Bill Kristol, Susan Rice could all still get jobs in the Biden admin today if they wanted to.
No one will ever ask Mrs. Haine's about this statement in a day or two, just like no one ever questions the experts who predict that Russia has run out of missiles/shells every single week since March.
Who? Where did she come from and where did she get her education?
3:22 is on the mark.
You do not expect them to say the Ukrainians are loosing do you? Of course not. Refer back to Milley's remarks last week. "The probabilities of the Ukraine winning are low."
And like I said before....they always candy coat these estimates. Therefore, the estimate is that the probability of the Ukrainians winning this war approaches zero.
And for Roger at the stumps..... who did she get her education from? Two sources
1. The guys who said " it is the combined estimate of 10 intelligence agencies that Trump colluded or got assistance from the Russians. (The Russia dossier)
2. 50 former Intelligence officials state that the Hunter Biden Lap top is a Russian fake.
On a serious note. Have no faith in what they say. They are there to support the narrative.
