Reuters: American lawmakers urge U.S. to ship Abrams tanks to Ukraine

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - American lawmakers on Sunday pushed the U.S. government to export M1 Abrams main battle tanks to Ukraine, saying that even sending a symbolic number to Kyiv would be enough to push European allies to do the same.

Michael McCaul, the newly installed Republican chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, told ABC's "This Week" that "just one" Abrams tank would be enough to prompt allies, notably Germany, to unlock their own tank inventories for the fight against Russia.

"Even saying that we're going to put Abrams tanks in would be enough," he said.

Send one congressman with every Abrams tank. We'll drop the price if you keep the congressman

This guy is an idiot. If I was a German I would laugh at him.

I would tell the US, you want our tanks? Then you buy our tanks and you ship them to the Ukraine.

Then the Ukraine will have our tanks.

I'd support that. Add one of their sons as well

They should send Abrams tanks. They can be sent to the northern front to watch the Russians in the neutral country of Belarus.

That is close enough good supply routes and roads to keep them in supply and not have to worry about bridge weight. Maybe they can have an American crew too. WNU and the Russian trolls here worry, worry, worry about training times. Having American crews would solve that. WNU can thank us later.

If the Russians send a tank within a mile or two of the border an Abrams can blow it away. Let the Russians rage about nuking everyone and then call their bluff. Open the silo doors and let the Russians talk themselves down or face the consequences.

Shooting a Russian tank in Belarus will cause the Russians to vacate or be kicked out of Belarus or a nuclear war, either way it is all good.

Shoot a Russian tank in Belarus and we can see if Medvedev , he of the manicured nails,, is talking smack or willing to put his own posh ass on the line.

Send 14 , then leclercs and Leo's will come
Fancy using a tank designed to f7ght a European war that isn't designed to fight in Europe

The M1 is not fit for the Ukraine due to the infrastructure being poor.

But is was made for a European war.

A "Western Europe" with hardened roads, heavy duty weight bearing bridges and access to modern fuel depots.

It was made to DEFEND in "Western Europe" with US crews and maintenance techs.

Not ATTACK in "Eastern Europe" with untrained foreign forces with no back up infrastructure to support it.

No M1 tanks for Ukraine. Ukraine can't support them without a massive US logistical and fuel train. Send the Leopards and let goddamned Germany pay for it all.

I want those M1's on my southern border. Its more important than Ukraine's border.

That is short sighted planning , you don't always get to choose where and when you fight a war . Any nation that borders Russia should have been seen as a potential battle ground .

Well Fazzy, you got to remember the M1 was designed and produced in the 1980s. It is a product of that thinking.

BTW I agree with the RussianSoCAL. Clean your own mess before going over to the neighbors house across the pond
