Ukrainian News: Estonia wants to block Baltic Sea for Russia
Estonia, which is a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), is considering the possibility of effectively blocking the passage of Russian ships through the Baltic Sea.
Estonia's introduction of a so-called contiguous zone, which can be up to 12 nautical miles from the 12-mile territorial sea, allows the country to conduct searches in the Gulf of Finland on military ships and civilian vessels to monitor compliance with Estonian law.

As to what is my take. Russia will immediately challenge such a blockade.

Good way to start a war. A blockade is a war event, Ask Japan in 45, Germany through the war, and Russia/Cuba in 62.
Little crap little power like Estonia starts stupid stuff and we get sucked in to protect a country with the population of Metro Boston.
NO!
Russia will gladly ignore your boarding calls.
Imagine living in an apartment and the guy up the hall from you decides to blockade your exit to the street.
You have to kill him, sorry.
Obviously, without a declaration of war it is illegal as the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Perhaps the Estonians could call it a special military operation. That would make it legal. Da?
A Blockade is a very bad idea. You raise the prospect of a Nato nation fighting the Russian navy. Who will win?
Who cares...the real concern is that this would escalate very fast and you will be at war. Nuclear war.
See how fast Lithuania backed down on their pledge to ban rail travel to Kaliningrad to know how this will turn out. Tallinn is equally as poorly exposed as Vilnius is in the event of conflict.
Bad idea or not, what pushed Estonia a postage stamp country to consider it?
Russia.
there lies the problem. Russia/
No, but who really suggested this? Some Estonian congressperson seeking the limelight?
As a practical thing it seems mighty illegal and there would seem anyway a channel to the north of the area estonia thinks it can extend to.
Vyborg is not a Russian name. Time for it to be Finnish again.
Why? It's a swedish name.
And it's spelled Viborg.
Gee Hans... Swedish really. Like many of us would not know that borg is the Swedish cognate of berg, burg or bourg?
Finland use to be part of Sweden and there are ethnic Swedes still living in Finland like the Aland Islands as you well know. Vyborg as it is shown in the map above or Viborg as the Swedes and the Finns (?) spell it only became Russian during the Russo=Finnish war of 1039/1940.
The point was to get in the face of any Russian irredentists lurking here at this site.
The Russians are so keen on changing borders, this would be one border we could change by moving it south. I have no idea of there are ant ethnic Finns or Swedes still living in Viborg, but that could be fixed by moving some in.
Yeah, so its Sweden who gets Viborg. :)
