Reuters: Nato allies pledge more arms for Ukraine, Germany holds out on tanks
KYIV/BERLIN, Jan 19 (Reuters) - Western allies pledged billions of dollars in weapons for Ukraine on Thursday and some promised to send the tanks Kyiv has requested if Berlin agrees, but Germany gave no sign of lifting a veto on deliveries it fears would provoke Moscow.
The issue looks set to dominate Friday talks in Germany between Western allies at Ramstein, Washington's main European air base. Fearing winter will give Russian forces time to regroup and unleash a major attack, Ukraine is pushing for the German-made Leopard battle tanks, which are held by an array of NATO nations but whose transfer to Ukraine requires Germany's approval.

And as for Germany providing Leopard 2 battle tanks to Ukraine. I am well aware that some are skeptical that Germany will give these tanks .... Poland has a good number of Leopard 2’s as well. A badly kept secret is that the poles do not enjoy having German made tanks in their inventory. The Leopard 2 is a better option for Ukraine. It’s powered by a V12 diesel. As opposed to the M1 that’s powered by a turbine. Mileage is measured in gallons per mile, not mpg. The logistical train needed to feed the gas guzzling M1’s is not doable by Ukraine.
