Russia has already 'lost' the war in Ukraine as the one-year anniversary of its brutal invasion approaches, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Gen. Mark Milley said in Brussels Tuesday.
Milley spoke amid warnings of a renewed Russian offensive, with allies seeking to rush modern weapons and ammunition to Ukrainian forces – who have been battling Russian forces who have been slowly gaining ground around Bakhmut in the eastern Donbas region.
'Russia is now a global pariah and the world remains inspired by Ukrainian bravery and resilience. In short, Russia has lost — they've lost strategically, operationally, and tactically,' said Milley.

And as for the war. This evening I am reading numerous reports that the Ukraine front-lines in the strategic city of Bakhmut are collapsing .... Ukrainians blow up bridge in Bakhmut amid reports Russia closing in (The Guardian).
I am not a General. But from my vantage point it looks like Russia is winning strategically, operationally, and tactically.

Milley is a political hack and will be a disaster if he has to actually lead the US in a war.
Lol, move along, nothing to see here
It is a bold prediction by someone, who I wonder is more political than general. Milley was in Iraq albeit at a high level . I do not know what positive effect he had if any. So I cannot judge form that deployment.
I checked the twitter map and the lines had not moved in 2 days. That map mighy be 8 to 16 hours out of date. We shall see.
I heard that Wagner had been pulled out of Bakhmut due to Russian political infighting. Prigozhin is getting too big for his britches. It also could be that Wagner is temporarily spent as it burned though 80% of the prisoners it recruited with the remaining 20% pardoned. Or may Wagner did their job and they were rotated to the MoD could swoop in and take credit now that Wagner did the bleeding.
After 3 months of fighting in Vuhedar with the Russians a shot up marine brigade to show for it, I wonder how many competent generals the Russians have.
We were told 4 or 5 months ago that Russian were in the outskirts of Bakhmut and then WNU turned out to be wrong. I would suspect our favorite irredentist WNU is correct but only because the Russian have a preponderance of artillery and troops.
I have read that Tatars killed a Russian general in an ambush. While a regard Crimea as Russian and think the 1950s deal was a bunch of crap given the crap Russia has put everyone through and given the discrimination the Russians have toward the Tatars in Crimea, I think there should be a plebiscite.
I have read the MoD is recruiting prisoners whereas Wagner is not and s not allowed. Mobilization in Russia must not be going all that well.
Those 20% of convicts who were pardoned: I think a number of them are going to royally and I mean royally fuck Russia over. I glean this from my reading of mercenary companies during the 100 years war, the privateers who turned pirate during the days of the Spanish main the motorcycle gangs after WW2, gay San Francisco and my ow observations of a port city, etc.
My father and I discussed a rec area for a city. His opinion was that it was worth it. He said "pay me now or pay me later" as in juvenile delinquency and worse. It makes the US GI Bill seem like genius. More could have been done, but it constructively channeled a lot of people and prevented a lot of mischief. It was a win win.
I don't think Putin is that smart. Maybe Russians citizens should thank the convicts for their service. then they could set up a organization like the Cossacks have so they have some pride and self police, after that jobs jobs jobs.
Anyway we shall see what the twitter map shows tomorrow.
This guy is no soldier he is a mouthpiece for whoever is in power...
Well it is taking all Russia has to defeat one small city( bakumut)… nato is growing,…nato producing more weapons… lots of Russians dying.. let’s agree it doesn’t look great for Russia…
It does not look good for Russia but for some fans they think Russia doing so great.
Political mouth piece
Yep
"Now he says that the Russians have lost the war. These two statements are opposed and do not make sense."
Separated by a quarter of a year. Russia has had it 2, r or 4 hundred man call up. Not much progress for that many people, unless they are prepping.
They have been prepping in building defensive works. Those can be used offensively. You can withdraw places that have extension fortifications so as to form groups to go oi the offensive elsewhere.
I try to pay little attention to what 4-star generals say and get real helpful insights from the military experts who post comments here.
Maybe they have. Maybe they will gain ground in the future.
But right now, at this moment in time. It is a stalemate.
This is more the Russians fault than any Ukrainian warfighting ability.
Because if the Russians threw the full might of their armed forces into this, not carring what the casualties were or the destruction of Ukrainian cites were, the war would be over.
Milley is an embarrassment. He should retire.
man I miss General Schwarzkoph. I consider any information put out by US government spokesman as disinformation. They are not capable of the truth. I hear what they say and then do my research in the opposite direction. They have their narratives and all
If only the social media battlefront mattered..
You want better generals, then get better politicians. Any one O6 has to start playing the political game. They have to at least schmooze. You only have to piss off 1 out 435 congress people and you will not be promoted despite the recommendation of your peers in the profession.
Out of those 435 critters are a lot of people who are dumb as box of rocks or highly partisan.
I think Milley is a bit correct in that without their nukes the Russian army is an arthritic bear.
The glory days of WW11 are behind them And even then the Allies lend lease efforts were instrumental in the Red Army's success.
A late family member who served in the American merchant marine during WW11 once told of watching the cargo containers being repainted as they were unloaded at a Russian port. The notation "Made in America" on the containers was being painted out and replaced with "Made in Russia". The amount of war material shipped to Stalin's military was considerable and was a large factor in that army's defeat of the axis forces.
The biggest looser today are those who are in conflict wars. That is why they are trying to drag countries not at war and to level with them.
