* Defence Secretary Ben Wallace has previously described NATO role as 'nice job'
* He is among those being tipped to replace the current chief Jens Stoltenberg
Defence Secretary Ben Wallace is being tipped to become NATO's next chief after current Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg confirmed he will stand down in October.
Officials at the military alliance this weekend dismissed claims Mr Stoltenberg could extend his term again amid the Ukraine war.
It means the secretary-general post will become vacant in just under eight months' time, with the race now on to become his successor.

WNU Editor: There is also talk that Canada's deputy PM Chrystia Freeland (left) or Estonian PM Kaja Kallas could be appointed NATO's first female leader. I personally do not think virtue signalling should be the priority for NATO right now.

More of a longshot than Freeland. Freeland has an ideological commitment to the current cause above and beyond any of the other contenders.
