Former President Trump Goes To East Palestine. Where Is President Biden?

Daily Mail: 'I know this menu better than all of you': Trump orders Big Macs for East Palestine first responders (and himself) after delivering 13 pallets of food and Trump Water to families 'betrayed' by Biden after toxic train disaster

* Trump praised the courage of local workers and law enforcement

* Said they had been the victims of 'betrayal' and 'indifference' by those in power

* He brought truckloads of water for the residents reeling from the derailment

Donald Trump told residents of East Palestine they are victims of 'betrayal' by President Biden and the federal government, and said his visit finally sparked them to act during a tour of the toxic train derailment site on Wednesday.

The former president greeted crowds furious at the lack of action from the White House, 19 days after the disaster in Ohio, and brought in thousands of bottles of his own water, cleaning supplies and canned food.

He then stopped at a local McDonald's where he ordered Big Macs for first responders and members of his team, and handed out signed MAGA hats to the customers.

Vintage Trump is turning a disaster to a profitable one for his own gain.

That's vintage Trump.

by calling new attention to the former president’s record of rolling back regulations on both rail safety and hazardous chemicals.

Trump’s administration withdrew an Obama-era proposal to require faster brakes on trains carrying highly flammable materials, ended regular rail safety audits of railroads, and mothballed a pending rule requiring freight trains to have at least two crew members. He also placed a veteran of the chemical industry in charge of the Environmental Protection Agency’s chemical safety office, where she made industry-friendly changes to how the agency studied health risks.

These actions have mostly been a matter of Trump-era trivia amid the furor over the Feb. 3 derailment in East Palestine, which has brought fierce GOP criticism of the response by Biden appointees such as Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. But Trump’s Ohio trip on Wednesday is provoking new scrutiny of his own track record — a development that some in the Biden administration were privately welcoming.

"by calling new attention to the former president’s record of rolling back regulations on both rail safety ... "

-FRED LAPIDES

Fred can't count. Fred cannot use logic. Fred is Teflon. He is immune to facts.

The particular regulation, if it had not been rolled back, would not have prevented the derailment. Why? there were to few cars carrying chemicals to trigger it use.

You have to have a certain umber of cars in a train for the rule to come into effect for a train.

Love it when Lapides screams in BOLD FONT!

President Biden: I will tell you where he is. He went to a war zone to let the world know that the US support Ukraine and will continue to do so. And then he went to Poland to bolster support with NATO allies.
He cannot be in two places at same time. Had he gone to Ohio, you would badmouth him for not going to Ohio.
tip: he is assuring Ohio that all the govt can do will be done. Recall it was Trump who dumped the safety breaks that the law. Yes: Trump is there handing out Trump water. But the press by now knows Trump's dumping of regulations for the train industry and if you do not know this then do a search .

"A high-hazard flammable unit train was defined as a train going faster than 30 miles per hour with at least 70 loaded tank cars containing certain highly flammable liquids, such as crude oil and ethanol." - Politifact (<<<LeFt Wingnut hack source)

11 cars were carrying hazardous material governed by the Obama -era rule

The Obama era rule would not have affected this train, because it is triggered at 70 cars not 11, mot 10, not 9, ...

11 < 70

Just have to point that out because some people have low reading comprehension and their math is shaky to non-existent and shaky is not here.

Personally, being a trained engineer and not an accountant I like the idea of ECP. And then today I thought about it. You could use ECP to derail trains.

On other note USA Today is going full frontal Pravda and saying that there were not more fish kills than usual ...

I also saw where the mayor, fire chief and police chief drank the water. That means squat. Pollution plumes move slowly in subsurface ground water. It percolates that take time. It might be safe today but in a few months?

There is speculation that things were done wrong on purpose. For starters tank cars are made out of mild steel. They would throw shrapnel.

Burning the polyvinyl chloride when burned forms polyvinyl chlorite, which is less toxic according to one writer. But with most chemical reactions, there are side reaction which can be mostly controlled under carefully controlled manufacture. Burning PCB in a pit outdoors is not that.

So we have dioxin, phosgene gas and cyanide. Awesome.

Moron: "He cannot be in two places at same time."

The 2023 Ohio train derailment (also called the East Palestine train derailment) occurred on February 3, 2023

Biden visits Poland and Ukraine from February 20th to 23rd.

20 - 3 = 17

Biden had about 2 full weeks to visit East Palestine before going to Poland.

Yes, we should badmouth morons.

"However, even if this safety rule had still been in effect, it would not have applied to the Norfolk Southern train that derailed in East Palestine, because it was not categorized as a high-hazard cargo train."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hot_box

https://www.progressrail.com

I have read Hot Box detectors are placed about every 30 miles. The answer is that it varies. they are placed closer together in built up areas.

What I would like to know is where the closest hot box was to East Palestine and what if anything did it detect?

Using more hot boxes is not necessarilly the answer. It is measurement equipment and therefore has to be calibrated periodically. That is not cheap. Also there could be false positives.

The GAO and the National Academy of Science weighed in on the cost benefit analysis and due to their input the rule was repealed. You can look it up on government sites and download a pdf.

Myself I would like to know who the players were and if there was pressure brought to bear. Maybe. IDK. But the thought crossed my mind.

One could get hold of the cost benefit analysis and run the number plus question, if they are good ones in the first place. But life is so much easier when you can go to a rag like The Gray Lady and get you talking points like a mindless simp.

correction: "They would NOT throw shrapnel."

here is a different perspective:
big federal govt has a job of protecting and helping its citizens. Private companies have the task of maximizing profits for their stock holders, cutting help and corners to do so.But when lobby groups can then get federal legislators to support their cut corners to help out private enterprise, then both parties have in the govt water down what they are supposed to do.

2:56, so exactly how are we going to continue to support Ukraine when we can't even support our own country? And I'm not talking about East Palestine. This country already was a train wreck

You skimmed the replying comments not to learn or anything, but merely as debate prep before you went off to the comments section of the New York Times or Democracy now to find ammo.

You are not interest in:

- Statistics
- Cost Benefit Analysis
- Actual events
- The actual language of the repealed regs until you got hit with it right between the eyes
- Chemistry
- reliability
- maintenance schedules and maintenance costs.

You are an ignorant boor.

You do not see a problem with false positives or maintenance issues?

If you were a smart person (you are not), you would study Progress Rail's financial reports and products and those of its competitor.

You would look at alternative equipment. Some rail line use lasers to measure wheels IRT.

You would look 1t the 90 minutes before the derailment and look at the information feed to the engineer and what he knew and when he knew it. I do not believe the engineer did anything wrong he tried to stop the train before the derailment. Did he get bad info from sensors? Could he have been notified sooner? What are the thresholds (and the tradeoffs)? That will come out.

I could see where this is Amtrak's fault. Of course the government would never admit it.

You are not interested in the firefighting equipment and efforts used. Most of time derailed tanker cars are pumped out and the contents are not burned off.

I have to wonder how effective or ineffective a water curtain would have been or was. I wonder about the firefighter training. Is there an opportunity for web based training?

I understand that a car's pressure relieve valve was damages and the car was getting hot. So again back to the water curtain(?) and/or training.

I've been to firefighting school 3 times. So I have lots of questions.

All this episode does is give you an excuse to try to score points with your talking points. You really are disgusting person. Get help for your TDS.
