Political and military figures in Germany have called for a return of compulsory military service.
It comes after the new defence minister Boris Pistorius called the 2011 phase-out of conscription a 'mistake' that assisted in alienating the public from civic institutions, according to The Guardian.
The German parliamentary commissioner for the armed forces, Eva Högl of the centre-left SPD, encouraged the government to ask itself whether some type of compulsory military service was necessary to stop staff shortages in the German army's ranks.

WNU Editor: Quit a sight to see. Germany's political left pushing for conscription. I am old enough to remember when they were the ones who were pushing to abolish conscription.

Well Joe is not going to start WW3. He only takes orders.
A radio talk show host opined that Joe has never called shots politically. Before the Obama presidency he was someone's political hatchet man. Joe has always been oily and seedy.
Joe is still taking orders although he is barely away of it most of the time.
Zero mention of Baerbock or the Green party. They will fight this vigorously. It's a rare opportunity to pretend they aren't as militaristic as they are, and their hawkish policies are much less likely to get shrugged off by the voter when the average person has skin in the game.
