Newsweek: Ex-U.S. Military Members Predict Where Russia's Next Big Offensive Will Be

Predictions that Russia could be plotting a renewed offensive in Ukraine have run rampant in recent weeks, hinting that a new stage of the war could be on the horizon as it approaches the one-year mark.

Retired U.S. General Mark Hertling predicted this month that Russia's war in Ukraine could ramp up in the spring after the tough winter conditions ease. The Institute for the Study of War (ISW), a U.S. think tank, wrote in a campaign assessment this week that Russia was preparing for an "imminent" new offensive in Ukraine.

And Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council Secretary Oleksiy Danilov told Sky News in an interview published Tuesday that Russia is planning for a "maximum escalation" in the coming months. Danilov did not rule out the possibility that Russia could ramp up attacks in the next two or three weeks to align with the one-year anniversary of the war on February 24.

Update: Ukraine braced for renewed Russian offensive later in February (BBC)

WNU Editor: No one really knows where the Russian military is going to launch their major offensive. Which tells me that the Russian Ministry of Defense has a put a complete lid on what they are planning to do. But what we do know is that this offensive is going to be massive, and one that has not been seen since the Second World War.

I love the Editor's (may God bless him) over-the-top language:

"...this offensive is going to be massive, and one that has not been seen since the Second World War."

When you look at this from a Russian perspective, the editor is probably not off the mark.
Since the Minsk agreements revelation and debacle...
There will be no negotiation.

Therefore
For Ukraine and Russia this war... is do or die.

If the Russians have 1/2 a brain, they will throw everything they have into this.
Spec ops destruction of HVTs, Carpet bombing of cities, transportation and key facilities. A complete black out of communications and jamming of both aerial and space (if possible) survalience systems.
Ground forces in Operational mobile group or division size attacks.

Once the offensive kicks off...You call for full mobilization of all reserves. That way you have back up forces ready In 60 to 90 days

Everybody goes. You also pull forces out from the artic and far east for the initial assault.

Losses may be high, maybe not.
But if this is truly life or death in their minds, they will pay the price and consider it a worth while sacrifice.

In essence the largest offensive since WW2.

But maybe they are fools and think They can half step it.

We shall see....
