Washington Post: U.S. warns Ukraine it faces a pivotal moment in war
As the first anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine nears, U.S. officials are telling Ukrainian leaders they face a critical moment to change the trajectory of the war, raising the pressure on Kyiv to make significant gains on the battlefield while weapons and aid from the United States and its allies are surging.
Despite promises to back Ukraine “as long as it takes,” Biden officials say recent aid packages from Congress and America’s allies represent Kyiv’s best chance to decisively change the course of the war.
Many conservatives in the Republican-led House have vowed to pull back support, and Europe’s long-term appetite for funding the war effort remains unclear.
Several officials noted the strong bipartisan support that has accompanied every Ukraine package, adding that Congress gave the White House more than it asked for, but they acknowledged that was under a Democratic-led House and Senate.

Surprised? Ask the Hmong or the Hungarians in 56. How about that air support for the bay of pigs guys.
"So much for US reassurances that they will support Ukraine for as long as it takes."
1, Joe Biden, the Big Guy must not be getting 10% on the ammunition sales, so he has lost interest in the war.
2. Are you FUCKING Kidding Me? What war between two major powers lasted only a year? Over 3,000 years of recorded history they is bound to be a at least one, but damn, what is Biden thinking? Excuse me, Biden does not think much now or very often. What are his handlers thinking?
3. The US would better to interview and recruit wargamers to prosecute the war. They would actually want to win it. I would seriously pit hobbyist wargamers against White House Staff and be confident that they could win matchups or prosecute the war better. Longer range artillery would allow Ukraine to shape the battlefield, if in no other way than to starve Russian troops of supplies. Do the buttfaces in the White house comprehend this?
4. To lose in Ukraine is to lose prestige and lose it to such an extent to be seriously deleterious. This isn't like, Ukraine in the 40s and 50s and Tibet in the 50s where you can cut and run and non one will notice. Do jackasses at the NYT know the CIA provided support for Tibetan rebels in the 1950s?
Cutting and running will result in fewer US allies and more Chinese and Russian allies. that would upset any balance of power.
5. Joe Biden (figurehead), President Obama and whoever else do not want to spend the money to ramp up amm0o factories to where the US can remained stocked and Ukraine can match Russia's artillery. They are spending money like water, but apparently they are not seriously contemplating manufacturing enough ammo or winning the war.
6. 155th naval infantry brigade of 5,000 men has been wiped out 3 times. The Ukrainians can hurt the Russian fascist armies and hurt them badly. They can win.
Ukraine should never have given up their nukes knowing that 1/2 the time there is a putrid Democrat occupying the White House.
Apparently, Biden cannot find a bike chain to beat Putin with and so is hiding under his bed. Obama found out that Putin is not a girl and so he is afraid to confront him. Sad. The high point of Obama's fighting days in school was jumping in to bully a girl that others had already started bullying. Obama has never taken a hit and if he ever does, he'd fold like sack of shit.
7. In engineering it is recognized that if you put too many constraints on a problem, it can often become intractable. that is unsolvable. By putting on constraints of time, money or stratagems no shit the war can't be won. Just leaned the other day there is a legal theory that law does not have to grounded in reality. Many people in Washington are trained lawyers, So maybe they do not know about constraints and their relationship to intractible problems
Clever!Maybe they just found out the majority of help is going into buying lavish gifts for friends vacation fancy cars and villas for the holidays coming up in June

what has D. Trump said about the war?
ah, yes. He has the plan to end it. Just can not tell us right now
12:26 looks like Fred Lapides although there is something weird, when comparing his rhetoric from 4 or 5 years to today.
Social Security as topic is not even a tangent to this discussion thread. Fred Lapides just threw it in their as a quick hit against the Tepublicans. It is something he does when he is not tilting at windmills.
Let's look at Social Security since Arch Liberal Lapides brought it up. It is going broke.
There are choices.
a) Continue as is. let it go broke.
b) Raise taxes for SS
c) Cut expenses
1.) Delay retirement age ( has been done a few times already. People after all are living longer or were pre-COVID)
2.) Means test SS
3.) Cut benefits
d) Grow SS finds. Some countries have sovereign wealth funds. Congress and others already cheat in the Stock market now. Can you imagine the opportunities for graft?
As it stands now government is a middle man. So generally for the average person they have to get less money than they put in. Good deal?
Now about Trump
In diplomacy you do not always advertise you position publicly and/or ahead of time to get the best results. Trump has had foreign policy victories. Biden has had non.
- Trump had the Abraham accords.
- Trump had a deal with Mexico to keep asylum seekers in Mexico until their claims were -processed. That took some doing.
victories?
the Remain policy is so cruel that it was dumped, reinstalled, and now before Supreme Court...the Accords are total failure
Trump’s Remain in Mexico Policy is at the Supreme Court. Here’s What's at Stake.

social security is always touted by those who want to end it as going broke but it has not gone broke.
do you favor this?

good way to lose next election
social security will be fixed if needed. There are these potential moves:
a. dump social security
b. privatize it
c. every five years vote to renew or dump it (a plan one GOP person offers)
d. keep it but update it for retirement age etc.
note: originally congress made retirement at 65 to claim SS. That was based on the fact that longevity indicated most people would die prior to getting very much out of SS. That has changed over the years.
Wagner chief admits to founding Russian troll farm sanctioned for meddling in US elections

The Russians are a problem. This is true. But for the 2-16 election they spent $40,000 on Facebook ads.
"The Clinton campaign, which maintained a longer and more concerted fundraising focus, brought in about $581m."
