China has a "stunning lead" ahead of the US in high-impact research across critical and emerging technologies, according to Canberra-based independent think tank Australian Strategic Policy Institute, or ASPI.
The world's second-largest economy is leading the US in researching 37 out of 44 critical and emerging technologies across the defense, space, energy, and biotechnology sectors — including research of advanced aircraft engines, drones, and electric batteries — the ASPI said in its Thursday report.
The US State Department partly funded the study.

First Obama derailed the plan to elect Hillary and confront China and Russia while superiority was still guaranteed. Then Trump delayed the plan another 4 years. Now we're on the fast track and hoping it isn't too late.
I am not so certain. Per my understanding, China under Communism does not originate any new technology. All of China's progress in technology has come from stealing technology from the West.
A large part of it probably did come from west. But the Chinese have their smart guys too. Like the japs and Koreans, they will take that tech and improve on it. Not only that, using this copied tech will led to new discoveries.
So they will advance. We did the same with the Brits in the Industrial revolution.

Most of our grade school teachers are left wing flakes whose main concerns are identity politics and ideological pseudo science.
The Chinese have the future , not because they are better than us, but because of our own negligence.
