Top Ukrainian Commander Says Ukraine Will Be Launching A Counter-Attack With 80,000 Troops Against Russia In Bakhmut ‘Very Soon’

Reuters: Ukraine Prepares Counteroffensive as Russia's Assault on Bakhmut Flags

WEST OF SOLEDAR, Ukraine (Reuters) - Ukrainian troops, on the defensive for four months, will soon launch a counterassault as Russia's huge winter offensive weakens without capturing the eastern city of Bakhmut, Ukraine's top ground forces commander said.

The remarks on Thursday were the strongest indication yet from Kyiv that it is close to shifting tactics, having absorbed Russia's onslaught through a brutal winter.

Russia's Wagner mercenaries "are losing considerable strength and are running out of steam", Kyiv's ground forces commander Oleksandr Syrskyi said in a social media post.

WNU Editor: The Military Summary channel's analysis on the upcoming battle for Bakhmut is a must see (see video below).

As to the upcoming Ukrainian offensive against Russia in Bakhmut. I am sure Ukraine will be able to push Russian forces back. 80,000 soldiers is a huge army. But Ukrainian losses from Russian artillery are going to be catastrophic.  I saw a recent drone video on what happened to a Ukrainian battalion group that were spotted by Russian forces when they launched an attack in the Donbas region. Russian artillery incinerated this group within 2 minutes.

In the meantime, Russian forces are advancing in many other parts of the front-line. It looks like Ukraine has taken their reserves away from these frontlines to reinforce the upcoming battle of Bakhmut, and Russian forces are taking advantage of it.

Zelensky is playing chess and Russia checkers.

Why do they talk nonstop about what they're going to do. Russia just listens and prepares for it. The PR war isn't as important as the real war but the counteroffensive gurus don't seem to agree.

it doesn't matter where they attack. Russians will do the same thing they have done since they got stalled last year.

The Ukrainians attack. The Russians will fall back, and bomb the offensive as they retreat. They will continue to retreat, until they decide to set up defensive posture.

Then the Russians will finally stall the Ukrainian offensive. Then the Russians will continue to bomb the Ukrainians into raw meat. Rinse and repeat.

It is sickeningly predictable.

One last thing. A 80,000 man offensive? I find it had to believe. Depending on your force structure that is about 5 to 6 divisions or 23-26 combat brigades.

Do the Ukrainians have the tanks, IFVs, mortars , Arty and other equipment to out fit such a force? Do they have the capability to get such a robust element to the front unscathed? Who knows? But I have my doubts based on current Ukrainian equipment losses, attrited industrial capacity and promised NATO delivery numbers.

One of the other reasons I find this hard to believe is ..... that these are the same guys who said they would be in Crimea by Christmas. That did not happen.
We shall see.

Ok bring out the counter points. it will be interesting.
