Reuters: Russia's Wagner Chief Says Battle for Bakhmut Has Damaged His Forces

(Reuters) - The head of Russia's Wagner mercenary group acknowledged on Wednesday that fighting for the Ukrainian city of Bakhmut had inflicted severe damage on his own forces as well as the Ukrainian side.

Bakhmut, a small eastern city that has for months been the target of a Russian offensive, has seen intense fighting and destruction in what has become the longest, bloodiest battle of the war.

Update #2: Russia's Wagner chief says battle for Bakhmut has damaged his forces (CTV News/Reuters)

WNU Editor: Considering how long and bloody the battle for Bakhmut has been for the past 8 months, no surprises on the high casualties. And while the Western press is focused on Evgeny Prigozhin's remarks on the high casualties within the Wagner group, Evgeny Prigozhin has also commented on what he believes is the current state of the Ukraine army .... Ukrainian army ‘almost destroyed’ – Wagner chief (RT).

Playing defense with modern weapons is easy … Ukrainian army is stronger then ever, with newly trained troops and its western weapons flooding into Ukraine. Russia has already lost this war…Just doesn’t know it yet.

Read his comments from a different source. He said his casualties were significant, but he did not say how many were killed and/ or wounded. It would be interesting to know the "real" numbers , but I do not think it will be for about 5 to 10 years.

He also stated that the Ukrainian Army has been bled out and is an empty shell of its former self. For its current main line unit , he probably is not exaggerating.

The Russian tactics of attack/ recon fall back and attrited by artillery have been effective.

But what is not talked about, and yet to be revealed is, how many of the "new" line units are there? These are the new ones that the US and other foreign nations are training and equipping with the leopards and the Bradleys. These units have also sucked off the best leadership from the units currently in the fight.

What we do know is that it is not 80,000 as presented by the Ukrainians. This is known by the available equipment numbers. There is currently not enough heavy equipment to outfit such a large force. What the actual number is, then, is unknown.

The next 3 to 6 months will be interesting

But what he does not mention

We actually don't know what the Ukies have or not have. You can analyze all you want. Only time will tell.

*don't.

Then imagine when those 500k new Russian recruits shows up.
They are slowly pouring them to the front, that's why we now see those mass killings of Russians now. But they are slowly pushing forward everywhere now in the fronts, except far west. Hope the Ukies can hold the floodgate.

I'm all for the Ukrainian soldiers defending its nation, THEY are the real heroes and victims here. I just hope it wouldn't include razing the whole country in the process.

Since you have not been correct in any of your predictions since the start of the war, It is now a safe bet to use you as an indicator of future events.

Therefore, the situation probably is: the Ukrainian military is suffering and there will probably be no "rude awakenings" in the next two to three months.

You've been wrong more often than not lol. The magical helicopters destroying ukranian armour..ka52 flyovers have virtually ceased due to high attrition.
You crack me up , thank you

The Russian winter offensive still has not captured Bakhmut and now it is spring.

Russia is such a big country and no Bakhmut. Sad. Paper tiger or I should say Paper Bear.

So 200k we’ll trained and motivated at first.. then 300k less trained … now 500k untrained and not motivated at all against well fortified defenses with more high tech heavy armor pouring into Ukraine to support the Ukrainian army…this is not a winning stradegy.

605. You are a poor propagandist. You forgot to mention that area was the defence zone of about 20 combat brigades.
Fazzy. You are barking up the wrong tree. Helos are not my forte, though they are great tank killers. That is the whole reason the apache gun ship was developed. To kill ukie, I mean Soviet tanks in western Europe
