I know it sounds silly, but if you look at their actions, objectively, you can see that I am speaking the truth.
The charged are for falsifying business records (the hush money payments). However for this to be a felony in NY in the falsification needs to be in support of or to conceal another crime...the other crime in this case is violation of federal election laws (hush money was meant to keep voter opinion favorable to Trump and was part of his campaign spending).
A number of issues here. For the felony charge the "other crime" that the business falsification would have been in support of is a federal crime not a NY crime...also even it can be prosecuted in NY, for it to be a federal crime it has to be proven that his intent was primarily to influence the outcome of the election when he may have plausibly had other motivations. Also there is potential statute of limitations.
Anyway it is complicated but primarily about falsification of business records which without another crime would likely just be misdemeanor beyond statute of limitations.
