Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev Says The War In Ukraine Could Last For Decades

Politico: War in Ukraine could last ‘decades,’ ex-Russian leader says

No end in sight, Dmitry Medvedev reckons.

Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, who regularly makes blunt remarks about the Kremlin’s war in Ukraine, said Friday that the conflict was likely to drag on for years.

“This conflict is for a very long time. It’s all for decades, probably,” said Medvedev, who is now the deputy head of the Russian Security Council — directly under Russian President Vladimir Putin — during a visit to Vietnam, according to Russian state-owned newswire RIA Novosti.

“As long as there is such power [in Kyiv], there will be, say, three years of cease-fire, two years of conflict, and then everything will happen again,” he added.

Update #2: Russia's Medvedev: Ukraine conflict may last for decades, no talks with Zelenskiy (Reuters)

WNU Editor: Russia has a history of fighting long wars within what it perceives as its territory. When the Soviet Union was formed some of its internal wars lasted for years with the last one ending in the early 1930s. And in recent times one has to look only at Chechnya. The Chechen war was actually two wars with the last one lasting 9 years. It only ended when the Chechen leadership were either killed or driven out.

Will The war in Ukraine last for decades? I doubt it.

But if it should continue for a few more years what will be left of Ukraine will not only be a shell of its former self with the resource rich eastern part of the country under Russian control. And as for the people of Ukraine who remain under the authority of Kyiv, only a fraction of its original population will remain, with the majority leaving for the simple reason that they do not want to be economically and politically beholden to Western governments, banks, and financial institutions for debts that will take generations to pay-off.

All wars eventually end. Medvedev just told the Ukrainians the obvious on what will happen if it continues.

It will stop once the US owns Ukraine and judging by the humongous amounts being constantly poured into the Ukraine in both cash and ''mil.help'' STOP sign just around the corner no need to overthink anything it is that simple

This war is right up against the SE border of NATO/EU. The longer it goes on, the more chance there is for a wider conflict. And depending on how depleted the Russ mil is at the time, the more chance that wider conflict goes hot real fast.

The russian strategy is to hold on. Until either China goes for Taiwan or a major war in the Mideast drags the US in it as well. They probably reckon a 50% chance of either one. Add other contingencies North Korea or a nuclear war in South Asia and they're banking on that. Once these happen they knoe the US will pull out most everything it has in Europe including all that cash. Without cash its over. Its not the best strategy since it puts Russia at Chinas will but they know Xi wants a war soon no matter what.

Where do you come up with this shit? We’re 15 months into the war, and Russia controls just 18% of Ukrainian territory— and that figure includes Crimea. Pretty pathetic when you consider the mismatch in power between the two countries’ militaries. And don’t give me any bullshit about Russia being in a proxy war with NATO, blah blah blah — Ukrainians reversed the attack on Kyiv back when the US was only giving javelins. If you actually visited Ukraine, you’d see that for those areas outside the zones of active combat, life is going on pretty much as normal. Russia’s missile and drone strikes failed to turn off the lights, and Ukrainian national morale is higher than ever. Multiple national polls prove that.

Russia has no chance at taking over any substantial chunk of Ukraine, because the Ukrainians in those regions HATE Russia. That’s what happens when you annihilate cities you claim to liberate, and then let loose your soldiers to murder and rape at will. Don’t believe me? Well then come over and talk to some survivors from Mariupol, a city that had some pro-Russia sentiments in years past. These days, there’s nothing but hate for Russia among that city’s population. They’ve seen the truth with their own eyes. Unlike you.

Gee wally, bad hair day?

The Russians have already taken over a large chunk of ukie land. Ukies are not going to get any of it back any time soon by the looks of it.
Yes the militaries are mismatched, so according to you the ruskies really have to screw up to lose this war.
But yes the Russians are slavs and that is an issue.
The ukies have lost 2 armies so far and working on thier 3rd.
I The hate in that part of the world goes both ways. Guess you did not see the white arm bands on those dead folks in bucha.

Anyway hope all is well and we are wondering did you say you were in the military, if so then with who?

"The Russians have already taken over a large chunk of ukie land. Ukies are not going to get any of it back any time soon by the looks of it."

Hahahah -- I can't wait to see you bullshit your way out of this when the Ukrainians rout the Russians in the upcoming offensive.

Ukrainians have lost 2 armies, huh? And what illustrious information source did you glean that information from? Did it come reeking like the bullshit that it is?

I was in Bucha immediately after the Russians retreated. I saw the bodies, talked to people who survived. I'm sure lots of geniuses like you were around to deny reports about Auschwitz back in 1945. History repeats, once again.

All i know is i saw the white arm bands . The russian colors on bodies.
You want the ukies to win? That's your problem. You still have not answered the question. What unit did you serve in?

This yokel is not going to answer you . He is a gutless coward.

You were right. Gutless and cowardly

Where did you see those white arm bands? Were you there in Bucha like I was? Huh? Because if you weren't, then you go fuck yourself like the stupid fuck you are.

And hell yeah I want Ukraine to win.

I'm gutless and cowardly?

Funny enough, you're the douchebags chilling outside the war zone, cheering Russia on as its solders rape and murder, too much of a pussy to come see the truth for yourself. Why don't you come over here and experience Russia's genocide for yourselves? When you've done shitting yourself from fear, you're gonna beg for forgiveness for every lie you've told.

So you were never in the military and all you can do is spew bullshit. Great. another knuckle head, MiC-spaz-a-tron.

The white arm bands were on the dead body pictures in the world wide press. Published in part by the Ukrainian government. The other piece was that you could tell that the bodies wee "placed" Targets that are shot do not fall and end up in those types of positions.

You really do to have any experience in combat do you?

Anonymous said...

NO he does not have combat or military experience. He is a fraud.

Can you say " Stolen Valor". ? It is in the dictionary, with his picture next to it.

Respond oh gutless one...........waiting

So...if I understand you correctly, you're saying that there happened to be a bunch of Russian civilians wandering around in Kyiv's suburbs wearing white armbands? Because that's what it sounds like you're saying. Which is fucking insane.

Anonymous said...

You have no military experience, so how would you know what is going on in a combat zone. You are just an ignorant civilian who cannot tell the difference between a tank and an APC.

Anonymous said...

Hahahaha. You’re such a moron. Answer the question shithead. Are you really saying that there just magically happened to be a bunch of Russian civilians, wearing white arm bands, hanging out in Kyiv’s suburbs?

Anonymous said...

You idiot. The question to you that we are waiting for is:

since you have no military experience how would you know what the hell happened or if something was staged. You are just a dumb civilian who is ass hatting around in a Foriegn country doing nothing.

Anonymous said...

I have a decade of military experience and a decade as a war reporter. I was there, saw the fighting, saw the bodies, and talked to Ukrainian civilians in Bucha and Irpin who survived Russia’s massacres.

But hey, you saw some photos on Twitter. That’s the gold standard for incontrovertible evidence.

Really a decade of military service? So you were a cook on a ship for 10 years. Now if you had been in the infantry or some combat unit there would be credence in what you say.
