Four Russian Aircraft Shot Down 'Simultaneously' Within Russia

Reuters: Four Russian aircraft downed near Ukraine - reports

Klyntsy is about 25 miles (40 km) from the border in the Bryansk region, where Kommersant said the incident took place.

Kommersant said on its website that the Su-34 fighter-bomber, Su-35 fighter and two Mi-8 helicopters had made up a raiding party, and had been "shot down almost simultaneously" in an ambush in Bryansk, adjoining north Ukraine.

Kommersant provided no evidence for its report that four aircraft had been downed, but the same assertion was also made by several heavily followed pro-war military bloggers.

^ Good rundown on how it could have happened from the far out and absurd to the reasonable.

One train of thought was the British storm shadow has scared the Russians so they are on a hair trigger and shot down their onw planes. It kind of goes along with the Chinese balloon story. The American radar could se it all the time, but the tracks were deleted due to filters. Once they turned the filter off they saw the balloons. It is the who signal to noise problem.

The Russian radar can see the Storm Shadows, if they tweak their radar, but that creates other problems.

It was suggested that Ukrainians pushed forward S-300s shot down the the Russian planes. The theory is that they are risking the S-300s. But the S-300s are running out of reloads anyway, so will become useless. So they risked them. Once the EW helo was brought down by a manpad(?), the S-300s say the Russian sortie just fine. They shot and they skedaddled westward.

Waste of good Russian pilots, but it is a negative sum game.

Possibility exists WNU did troll, when he typed "Friendly fire?" Unless he heard from the grapevine, there does not seem to be a consensus of how the shoot down's happened.

My guess is that the Uks shot the aircraft down and Rusks said "We did it by accident" to dey the Uks any glory.

Talk has been maybe the Westernized MiG-29s, maybe a SLAMRAAM launcher from the ground. There was talk about forces hunting for saboteurs on the ground. Air forces have been wiring air-to-air missiles to drones since the Iraqi no-fly zone in the 1990s, and these days, they could be linked to a radar elsewhere just like the SLAMRAAM. I'm curious why drone-launched short-range AAMs are not being considered?

I was just about to join tank corps but air force pilot track probably some openings. I'm convinced now the Kremlin drone attack was a message to Putin that air defense does not work at all. This is combined with intel that the very expensive but corruptible rebuild of Sovit systems means the whole country is susceptible.

friendly fire or not it is all stupidity to loose 4 air assets in a day in your own yard.
