NBC: Army aviators, ready to leave the military, are told they owe 3 more years instead

The Army reinterpreted part of their contracts after a legal review, derailing the futures of hundreds of officers who thought their contracts were up.

Hundreds of Army aviation officers who were set to leave the military are being held to another three years of service after they say the branch quietly reinterpreted part of their contract amid retention and recruitment issues.

The shift has sparked an uproar among the more than 600 affected active-duty commissioned officers, including some who say their plans to start families, launch businesses and begin their civilian lives have been suddenly derailed.

“We are now completely in limbo,” said a captain who had scheduled his wedding around thinking he would be leaving the military this spring. That captain and three other active-duty aviation officers who spoke to NBC News spoke on the condition of anonymity out of fear of retaliation.

This will HURT recruiting. Those officers were told their terms would serve consecutively by a recruiter. Why trust a recruiter moving forward? Terrible decision to make the change retroactively. It should have only applied to recruits after the decision. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.

Getting Stop-Lossed like a mofo. Apparently the manpower/recruitment stream is already so fucked up that they can't attract ANY competent recruits. /or on many days, any recruits at all.

Incessant indoctrination that your country sucks and watching anyone who resists the raging progressive Marxism punished and separated; the result is the effective cancellation of the US Military.

One step closer to conscription. The lefty loonies are running out of ammunition to smack talk Russia with, and it’s their own fault.

"For years, the Army allowed some aviation officers to serve those three years concurrently, and not consecutively, along with their roughly contracted seven or eight years of service.

In a phone call with reporters Thursday, Army officials admitted "errors" in the system, which they noticed a few months ago, led to the discrepancy."

Nothing was ever misinterpreted. The military put standard boiler plate in there incase they needed it. For years the military chose not to exercise that option.

My understanding is that all contracts are 8 years long. they have you for 3 or 4 years and the rest is reserves duty. The reserve duty can be active or inactive duty. Most of the time it is inactive. The understanding is that anytime during those 4 to 5 years of inactive reserve duty, the military can bring you back for needs of the service.

Calling it an "error" is a lie. It is a lie intended to deflect from poor recruiting caused by who is running the country and I mean more than Joe Biden.

I am looking to move to China and convert money to a basket of currencies. The morons in power think they can govern with a stage 4 dementia patient and they ran a stage 3 dementia patient for president from his basement.

Is China worse than the US? It does not have the 1st or 2nd amendments. But will the US soon have those? At least China won't guilt trip you if you turn on the heat in the house or race hustle like a Democrat will.

Academy grads have a 5 year active obligation.

Aviators might have their contract extended due to the time it takes in training which is more than other fields.

This 3 years is seems is tacked on to that and would be the inactive reserve duty called in by the military.

WNU is just a Russian propaganda pedaler

WNU is that, but it does not mean that the article above is false.

I noticed Chris is no longer commenting. Thoroughly disgusted with WNU no doubt.

But the report is via NBC and we are warned by people at this site never trust what MSM says.

Never trust the MSM or read between the lines?

People could read Pravda during the USSR to glean the real news with a good memory and time.

things have changed,
it was 6 years from the academy. shots were not optional. I was not a flight officer.
