SCMP: Just over half of mainland Chinese people back full-scale war to take control of Taiwan, poll finds
Just over half of mainland Chinese support a full-scale war to take control of Taiwan, according to a new survey that offers a rare insight into public opinion as Beijing takes an increasingly assertive stance towards the island.
The survey of 1,824 people found mixed public attitudes, with 55 per cent in favour of "launching a unification war to take back Taiwan entirely", with a third opposing it and the remainder saying they were unsure.

WNU Editor: I expected a higher poll number in favour of war. This tells me that Taiwan is not the priority for most Chinese right now. Their focus is on the economy.

Why would anyone on mainland China want a war when the upcoming elections are almost guaranteed to result in a Kuomintang win? If the polls are showing a landslide victory for the pro-Chinese faction then why would any Americans be surprised by this news? Well, because most of us know nothing about China except what the megacorps and their puppets tell us.
If China is autocratic, then what a majority wants does not matter. If a democracy, then, like us, it does not matter since a big majority in the US wants stricter gun controls and abortion rights.
I would doubt any poll, including one on Chinese thought on taking Taiwan. Many people will be careful not to say they oppose it. But pride being pride. If that's their red line and they have said many times it is, then we should respect this, while taking into account Taiwanese peoples' wishes of course too. There's of course massive economic role of Taiwan, but again our morale values should come first, then some chips. If we keep selling out, there's no values and only material worth left
And just economic competition or competition along military lines means we ultimately lose. Make it about freedom- what it should be- and we all win, including the Chinese people
