CNN: Xi Jinping tells China’s national security chiefs to prepare for ‘worst case’ scenarios
Hong Kong CNN — Chinese leader Xi Jinping has called on his top national security officials to think about “worst case” scenarios and prepare for “stormy seas,” as the ruling Communist Party hardens efforts to counter any perceived internal and external threats.
“The complexity and difficulty of the national security issues we now face have increased significantly,” Xi said Tuesday at a meeting of the party’s National Security Commission, state news agency Xinhua reported.
“We must adhere to bottom-line thinking and worst-case-scenario thinking, and get ready to undergo the major tests of high winds and rough waves, and even perilous, stormy seas,” he added.

One of the biggest problems the Chinese face re: all out warfare with any near peer opponent is that most of the fighting males, E.G: pilots, tank commanders, artillery crews and PLAN boat drivers are all only sons.
The Chinese culture is based on the children of elders providing care for them in their dotage. The one child policy means one male child per household. They killed millions of infant girls in order to get the one allotted son. Along with the other problems that lopsided population problem poses, it creates an acute problem in supplying meat for war.
Having only sons wiped out by the thousands in an actual war with Taiwan will cause a national upheaval.

The Taiwan conflict will be fought mostly with rockets and missiles though.

The assumption that the chinese would not go to war because of how most families are one child families is wishful thinking. Alternatively this could mean in a war an even greater desire for revenge. With the sole kid gone the old 'an heir and a spare' no longer applies so the only solution is to escalate since what do you have to lose now you already lost everything. Many families in Ukraine are one child. So far no signs of collapse in morale not serious ones. These assumptions are just wishful thinking of people who don't get human nature. When you lost everything there's no point in peace anymore only escalation.
