Taiwan's Defense Minister Says Taiwan Will Not Let The U.S. 'Blow Up TSMC' If China Launches An Invasion

Taiwan is home to more than 90% of the manufacturing capacity for the world’s most advanced semiconductors, according to a 2021 Boston Consulting Group report. Pictured here is a TSMC building in Taiwan on April 8, 2022. Bloomberg

Taiwan News: Defense minister says Taiwan will not let US 'blow up TSMC' during Chinese attack

'If they want to bomb this or that,' armed forces will not tolerate this kind of situation

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan Minister of National Defense Chiu Kuo-cheng (邱國正) on Monday (May 8) said that the armed forces would not tolerate the destruction of any Taiwanese facility, in response to a suggestion by U.S. Congressman Seth Moulton that the U.S. should warn China that it would "blow up" Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) if it attacked Taiwan.

At a conference organized by the California-based think tank Milken Institute in May, Moulton was asked what deterrence effect U.S. chip policy could have on China, to which he responded, "the U.S. should make it very clear to the Chinese that if you invade Taiwan, we're going to blow up TSMC." U.S. defense policy advisor and former government official Michele Flournoy quickly countered his remark, saying that if TSMC was destroyed, there would be a "two trillion dollar impact on the global economy within the first year" and "you'd put manufacturing around the world at a standstill."

So. Good to say it, but little to be sure.

Taiwan's Defense Minister can tell the US to fuck off.

^The physical chips are manufactured in Taiwan. But the tech for the chips comes mainly from the US. China at present does have the tech or facilities to make highly advanced chips, just the basic kinds for clocks, microwaves and such. The US wants to keep it that way. But if the US wanted, it could simply deny the advanced tech to Taiwan. Then what?

Even WNU is assuming against Taiwan, Why dont we assume Russia will blow it to look like taiwan agreed with US.

It is how Russia is playing. They shot missile above Kremlin right without any damage and camera ON everywhere.

Yeah well the US told Azov that they had their backs, and then the moment 50 of them are in a POW hospital talking to interrogators a HIMARS missile came screaming through the roof.

Mr. Kuo-cheng might want to take note.

YEA, The Russian are going to blow up the factory. You got russians on the brain.

I could see Joe Biden types blowing up a semiconductor factory thinking that the most critical threat of China getting it is removed. Then they would go on to east Steak dinner and bop their mistress thinking they did the job well.

Far better to engage China in world war than to do an ally like Taiwan that way.
