U.S. Accuses South Africa Of Secretly Sending Arms And Ammunition To Russia

FILE - Russian-flagged cargo ship Lady R docks at Simon's Town naval base, in Cape Town, South Africa, Dec. 7, 2022.

CNN: South Africa loaded arms onto sanctioned Russian vessel, US ambassador tells local media

Johannesburg, South Africa CNN — The US ambassador to South Africa on Thursday accused the South African government of delivering arms and ammunition to a sanctioned Russian cargo vessel late last year, local media said.

“Among the things we noted was the docking of the cargo ship in Simon’s Town naval base between the 6th to the 8th of December 2022, which we are confident uploaded weapons and ammunition onto that vessel in Simon’s Town as it made its way back to Russian,” Ambassador Reuben Brigety II told local media, including News24.com.

“We are confident that weapons were loaded onto that vessel, and I would bet my life on the accuracy on that assertion,” the ambassador also said in a video released by Newzroom Afrika, a local news channel that was also at the briefing.

What a surprise! As long as Sleeping Joe is in power every country will do all what they want.

Isn't that a good thing?

Really Jac?

I sit here trying to think of what I was going to say. Sadly, I'm a loss of words.

Just do what Joe Biden does best and try to read the teleprompter.

I mean, every country should be able to do what they want? Or? Am I missing something?

Yeah, but now they must suffer sanctioning.

Russia and South Africa are old allies. I think the more interesting angle is why Russia would ask for arms from SA. (?)

South Africa has a very sophisticated arms industry. (They held a few homemade nuke warheads some years ago)

I wonder what they shipped to Russia?

According to Chapter VII of the UN charter, participating in sanctions outside of the ones ratified by the UN general assembly is strictly against international law.

Save your breath , Russian cheerleaders don't comprehend international law

gee Fazzy

you were all about following UN law when the the Russians started thier offensive. How come strangely silent now or when the US invaded syria? Can you say hypocrite?

Syria aided jihadis in Iraq. So the US owes them.

If the Syrians has not aided jihadis or otherwise harmed Americans in Lebanon, you would be correct.

Tough shit, Biden. The American "sanctions" against Russia are illegal. More and more nations will find out they may simply disregard the American demands, since Biden is all bark and no bite.

I'm sorry to disappoint, but I believe SA never agreed to any sanctions. So, would you have them punished for not want to participate in this world war?

I just find it interesting listening to americans demanding the world to do what they want whenever they want. Nevermind their own domestic and international plans, history and culture, time and place.

From what I've seen the "US" got a verbal punch in the face at a summit in SA when they were trying to bully some African countries to join the sanctions.

SA needs the money badly. Ever since the apartheid gov got kicked to the curb they had more people and less money. It's a shithole like the rest of Africa. Oh and the nukes the used to have came from Israel and yes they (both) tested one in the south atlantic where the sats are not pointed.
