Antiwar.com: Top US General: Ukraine Should Not Use US Equipment to Attack Russia
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley insists that "this is a Ukrainian war. It is not a war between the United States and Russia. It’s not a war between NATO and Russia."
The top US general reaffirmed that Kiev has long been asked not to use military equipment provided by Washington to conduct attacks against Russian territory, according to Reuters. This policy is necessary because such attacks could provoke a direct clash between NATO and Russia, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley emphasized while speaking with reporters at the Pentagon on Thursday.

Update: Ukraine Shouldn't Use US Weaponry Inside Russia, US General Says (Reuters)
WNU Editor: President Zelensky has said that Ukraine will not attack Russia when it launches its counteroffensive .... Zelensky says Ukraine will not attack Russian territory in counteroffensive (The Hill). More here .... Ukraine counteroffensive does not aim to attack Russian territory, Zelenskyy says (AP).
But what is said publicly is not being followed privately. Quoting the above post from Antiwar.com ....
.... Kiev has ostensibly pledged not to use long-range weapons provided by Washington to attack Russia, but leaked documents also show that Zelensky does not intend to keep his word. Earlier this month, the Washington Post reported that "behind closed doors, Ukraine’s leader has proposed going in a more audacious direction – occupying Russian villages to gain leverage over Moscow, bombing a pipeline that transfers Russian oil to Hungary, a NATO member, and privately pining for long-range missiles to hit targets inside Russia’s borders, according to classified US intelligence documents detailing his internal communications with top aides and military leaders."

gee I guess this leaves the Ukie Rah Rah team out in the cold. How are you going to win this war without attacking the enemies home territory.
And since most of your weapon systems and equipment, to include small arms, are from the USA. You are going to have a real hard time.
It means the Ukraine will be a battlefield for a long time. so there goes out the window......the well is it ok for the Russians to attack Ukraine and the Ukrainians cannot attack Russia.?
Zelensky is free to stage attacks on Russian soil, but to use U.S. or NATO weapons to do so, when he agreed not to, not only risks Russian reprisals against the U.S. and NATO, but demonstrates he cannot be trusted. Perhaps he actually WANTS to provoke a wider conflict? We're already walking a very thin line by providing him with weapons, but if at some point we continue to cross that line, pulling out will prove all but impossible. That's NOT a good position to be in, but our "leadership" seems to think otherwise. As usual, we're just pawns in a deadly game.
^ EDIT: Not to say he can't/shouldn't use US weapons per se, but rather ADVANCED US weapons. There's a difference
Zelienski does want to provoke a wider conflict. It is in his best interests to do so. He cannot win this war on his own, only Nato can do this for him.
Remember the missile strike in Poland>. Remember the Ukie report of the russians attacking the nuke plant?
Both were an effort to draw nato into the war. Luckily for us, both efforts failed. He will continue this game until he gets what he and Nullnad want.
12:28 Then why don't we stop the charade and just declare war on Russia? Because that's essentially what will happen if Ukraine uses advanced US/NATO weapons to strike Russian soil targets, let alone to, for instance, strike Moscow. Talking mainly about long-range missles here.

I agree. Stop the kabuki theater and declare war now or tell the Ukrainians we are done and do the best to build what they have left of a country.
But since we got the ukies into this mess , for honors sake, we need to declare war.
What the US has done is create a grand facade and an evil one at that. The US is using the Ukies as Punching dummies. This is the evil of the neocon philosophy. They have no honor and should be exiled and shunned.
There are too real losers in this Mess the Ukrainians and the Russians. The US orchestrated and provoked this conflict. But it is not paying the price.
^ agree. Neocon worldview is evil. And the idiot American public, not to mention the armed forces, are just expendable pawns in their game, whipped into a frenzy by a compliant media machine and tired patriotic slogans
Last article paragraph: If the documents are "classified" how did the WAPO get them. Accidentally on purpose leaked? That's reassuring.
The first 7 comments are all Russian trolls. An all out effort.
Smells like desperation.
If the situation becomes sufficiently desperate, Zelensky will be faced with the question:
"what am I more afraid of, losing the conflict? Or angering the US?"
If the Ukrainian position deteriorates enough, they will absolutely go for more "hail-mary" strikes deep into Russia using whatever they can--including all US weapons. Who in Ukraine cares what the US thinks at that point if the war is on the verge of loss and the West can't or won't do anything more to avert it.
Alex
you are right.

WHAT? YOU ARE AFRAID TO GO TO WAR?
I AM NOT JOKING. Either stand up or quit talking.
The US committed to these people. Honor your commitment or shut down the operation and pay a weregild. That is your two choices.
Ukraine is fighting for its right to survive as a sovereign nation; because Russia made the choice to invade.
When that choice was made, any hope of Russia fighting this war while attempting to tie Ukraine's hands behind its back were nullified. Ukraine has every right to use every resource available to it to survive.
The Russians don't like that.
1:28 That's not desperation you smell. Flush your toilet. Problem solved.
"The US committed to these people. Honor your commitment or shut down the operation and pay a weregild. That is your two choices."
The US also committed to Iraq. US also committed to Afghanistan. US also committed to Syria. US also committed to Lebanon. How'd that work out? And BTW, it wasn't MY commitment dumbass. I didn't vote for any of the Necon freako's in power. None of them. And I suppose you're going to be fighting on the front lines along with the troops when real war (not just "conflict") comes? Yeah sure, yabetcha.
No I am not going to fight for the blob. and i wrote that stuff.
But if you look at it what did our country do? Our BLOB orchestrated and instigated a major conflict between two nation states that were on good terms until 2014.
So the US blob is responsible. It needs to stop sliming around and take responsibility for its actions. Either man up and commit to the Ukrainians or get the hell out. To many people are dieing in a conflict that is being prolonged because nobody is giving maximum effort.
That includes the Russians , Ukrainians and United States.
Does any one doubt if the US had magically disappeared in 2011 that this war would be going on now between the ukies and the ruskies? I don't think so
But in tge end here is tge reality, the two nations Russia and the USA capable of ending this ware are not willing to go the distance to end this thing.
Declare war? We don’t do that anymore. We let the intelligence agencies do what they want. Presidents follow The pukes in congress do not have the courage to debate the issue as ordered by the now dormant constitution
The USA & Britain are at proxy war with Russia. Russia may well use groups from 3rd countries to strike inside Britain & America or at their people & property abroad. Been done before....
^ Yes, yet another never-ending "war." A Necon's dream
Be very careful on what you wish.
Hahaha 😆 stupid administration
