Half Of Americans In New Poll Say They Believe The Federal Indictment Of Former President Trump Is Politically Motivated

The Hill: Nearly half in new poll say Trump indictment is politically motivated

Almost half of Americans in a new poll said that they believe the federal indictment of former President Trump is politically motivated after he was charged with 37 counts in relation to the alleged mishandling of records at his Mar-a-Lago estate.

Forty-seven percent of respondents in the ABC News/Ipsos poll released Sunday say the charges against Trump are politically motivated, while 37 percent say they are not. Sixteen percent say they are not sure.

Most Republicans — 80 percent — say the charges announced last week are politically motivated, with only 16 percent of Democrats aligning with that view.

By comparison, 71 percent of Democrats say the charges are not rooted in politics. Only nine percent of Republicans say the same.

The details of the ABC/IPSOS poll are here .... Most Americans view latest Trump charges as serious (IPSOS).

Update: Lawyer Robert Barnes is right (see tweet below). But that is not the media or political narrative right now.

First of all: the full charges have not been read by most people. We do know that Trump's former attorney general said they were damning charges. We know too that the very conservative magazine The National Review also stated that the charges were numerous, detailed, and not unfair.
That said: does it matter what the man in the street says at this early stage, when the charges have not been read out in full and a plea not yet entered? It will be a jury that decides, and that trial is to be run by a Trump appointed person who is very pro Trump (he appointed her to her position, and in an earlier trial ruled in Trump's favor).
This trial, is what can be called the Miami trial, ie mishandling etc of classified documents. In addition, there is the NY trial: the money, tax, fraud charges. And then there is to be the Georgia trial, not yet announced but expected, which will be a RICO charge in an attempt to change election results.
The mature thing, then, is to wait till cases and issues run their course. Recall: not one person involved in the Florida issue who has testified is a Democrat but rather a Trump worker.

“For the first time, members of the House Oversight Committee were able to view the FBI 1023 document. Republicans contend the document points to a legal problem for the president,” Pergram began before playing clips of House Republicans.

“There is no doubt in my mind that Joe Biden is guilty of bribery 100%. I mean, there was two separate transactions, one that went to Joe Biden for $5 million, one that went to Hunter Biden for $5 million. So, I mean, if that’s not grounds for criminal activity, I don’t know what is,” said Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL).

“About a dozen GOP members viewed the document in a classified setting at the Capitol. But a source familiar with the document tells Fox, quote, ‘The document does not say Joe Biden received any payments.’ Still, the GOP is going for the jugular,” Pergram then noted.

Former Defense Secretary Says Trump Indictment Is ‘Serious’, Not Political
If you were a "soldier, sailor, or airman and had classified documents at your home, you’d be court-martialed," said former Secretary of Defense Mark Esper.

Whilst members of one party are arrested & prosecuted while politicians of the rival party who commit serious crimes are protected by law enforcement, the judiciary & 95% of the news media, then your country has become a one party state autocracy. It may come to pass that if American citizens are at least of the opinion that their vote will not count due to ballot harvesting etc, they may come to the conclusion that the only way to change things politically is through the barrel of a gun. Not good. America has already had civil wars to clear the air. 1776 & 1861. 2024/25 could be very interesting.
