Reuters: The Global Nuclear Arsenal Grew Last Year, SIPRI Says

STOCKHOLM (Reuters) -The number of operational nuclear weapons rose slightly in 2022 as countries implemented long-term force modernisation and expansion plans, a leading conflict think-tank said on Monday, warning that the world was entering a dangerous phase.

The estimated number of warheads in military stockpiles for potential use rose by 86 to 9,576, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) said in a statement, continuing a trend seen in the last few years.

"We are drifting into one of the most dangerous periods in human history," said Dan Smith, SIPRI Director.

Seems to be the only way to pursue one's own sovereign interests. I think we will see Turkish, Brazilian, and Saudi (based on home soil) weapons programs being whispered about in the near future.

Nuclear equality is the only way. Nukes nukes for everyone

China's arsenal is unknown even by US "intelligence" and I predict their numbers will be shocking when China decides to reveal it to the world. Taiwan would be well advised to acquire nukes and means to deliver them. Obviously the Middle East is going nuclear as the US withdraws.

The more nuke powers the higher the probability of someone testing the limits and getting burned. We barely avoided nuke use during the Cold War. Unfortunately many think that just because they weren't used they're never gonna get used. The reality as researched by historians paints a different picture.
