Is The Arrest Of Ultra-Nationalist Kremlin Critic Igor Girkin A Red Flag That The Kremlin Is Getting Desperate?

Moscow Times: Russia Detains Former Separatist Ukraine Commander

Russian army veteran and ex-FSB officer Igor Girkin has been detained, his wife and the RBC business daily’s sources said Friday.

Girkin, who helped Moscow annex Crimea in 2014 and then organized pro-Russian militias in eastern Ukraine, was detained by law enforcement officers around 11:30 a.m. Moscow time, his wife Miroslava Reginskaya said on his Telegram channel.

According to the RBC business daily, the detention came after a complaint from a former member of the Wagner mercenary outfit, which Girkin had criticized in the past.

WNU Editor: Russian army veteran and ex-FSB officer Igor Girkin mentioned a few months ago on his social media channel that if the Kremlin arrests him, it will be a sign that they are desperate.

Is the Kremlin desperate?

I do not think so. But the Kremlin is worried that many Russians are starting to believe that Putin has been weak in prosecuting the war against Kyiv, and they do not like bloggers like Igor Sechin who are giving a voice to what many are thinking.

I know among my many family members and friends, they do not understand why the lights are still on in Kyiv or that the nightlife continues in Lviv. Some of them are now voicing that Russia should formally declare war against Kyiv, and order a full mobilization of the country. Needless to say. I have some lively discussions with my family members and friends in Russia.

But while I do not think the Kremlin is desperate. I do see a shift in the Kremlin's war strategy to satisfy the pro-war mood in the country. In the past week they have expanded their targeting of non-military infrastructure like grain silos in Odessa, and bridges southwest of Odessa. They are now using cluster munitions, and their new advanced Lancent Kamikaze drone has been deployed. They have also launched a major offensive in the northeast of Ukraine that by the looks of it will dwarf the Wagner offensive in taking Bakhmut.

My friend this is a mystery to us all.

To those of us who were trained in the American way of war, we wonder the same thing. Add to that...How is it possible zelinski can travel out of the country or have heads of state visit him? That's nuts.

This is a joke. If this had been the US military, we would have bombed Kiev and the other major centers of command and control..until its eyes bled...no power, no water, no communication, no nothing. All Major roads and Rail systems bombed, not to mention just about every major army unit demolished by air and ground fire. Bosnia, Somalia, Iraq, Afghanistan, we may have not "won" those conflicts in the end (the problem with define winning) , but no one can deny how fast those governments fell to our force of arms. In the initial invasion, massive firepower works every time.

Zelinski would have been declared a criminal and either been killed or captured months ago. That goes with his ministers also.

But I do know why part of this is true. The Russian military has some serious flaws. But it may be they are learning some lessons in the last year. We will see in the months to come.

Only proves how idiotic the MSM in the West is, when they discuss "dissent" or "anti-Putin" feelings in RUssia these days. The criticism of Putin is that he is way too soft and needs to really wage war on Ukraine and NATO now, and end the half-measures of the SMO, is it not?

The same way they talk of a coup in Russia, and replacing Putin - the replacment would likely be far more hard line and war hawkish.

I think the slow-walk SMO strategy would work in a conflict with rational actor opponents. But when you are dealing with the crazed neo-cons of the world like Field Marshall's Nuland and Freeland, the Kagans, the UK, Poland, the Baltic States, the EU etc, it just gives them more time to come up with some lunatic escalation plan - like attacking a nuclear plant in Russia, or the NPP etc, or sending in The Polish-Lithuanian Legion, or many more NATO "Advisors". Or long range weapons which the Ukrainians would of course use to immediately attack Moscow or some other escalatory target...

THe Ukrainians are just deperate for anything that might result in NATO intervention, they are not concerned with the impplications of how this happens, only that it does.
