New York Times: Ukrainian Forces Lost Up To 20 Percent Of Their Front-line Military Equipment In The First Two Weeks Of The Counteroffensive Campaign

New York Times: After Suffering Heavy Losses, Ukrainians Paused to Rethink Strategy

In the first two weeks of Ukraine’s grueling counteroffensive, as much as 20 percent of the weaponry it sent to the battlefield was damaged or destroyed, according to American and European officials. The toll includes some of the formidable Western fighting machines — tanks and armored personnel carriers — the Ukrainians were counting on to beat back the Russians.

The startling rate of losses dropped to about 10 percent in the ensuing weeks, the officials said, preserving more of the troops and machines needed for the major offensive push that the Ukrainians say is still to come. Some of the improvement came because Ukraine changed tactics, focusing more on wearing down the Russian forces with artillery and long-range missiles than charging into enemy minefields and fire.

WNU Editor: Equipment can be replaced. The big loss has been in trained combat soldiers. I am reading unconfirmed reports that 26,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed in this counteroffensive. I am sure Russia has lost just as many men, but in a war of attrition Russia has more men, and they certainly have the firepower.

Bottom line. I do not see how Ukraine can sustain this offensive if everything is at a stalemate that some US officials are now saying .... Ukraine Recap: US Intel Official Says Conflict at ‘Stalemate’ (Bloomberg).

Equipment can only be replaced if it arrives. If Taiwan or the Mideast collapse into war nothing will arrive including equipment. Not anymore. This is what the russians are banking on.

The offensive sadly , as predictided, was a total failure and a tragedy.

The msm propaganda narritive that the ukies have taken 250 square kilometres, and that somehow translates into some type of victory is full of holes and tiresome.

But what they don't say is how much of that land was taken immediately back?
Or how much of that land was of any real operational or tactical value? Does not matter either way, not one of the defensive belts have been broken.

The facts they throw at you to say its raining are being used to hide the piss going down your back.

Then the story changed that those were only probing attacks or recon by fire attacks. First time I have heard of probing attacked taking a 20% equipment loss. Btw if they admit to a 20% loss you can confidently say it was probably more like a 40% loss.

Nothing has changed yet. Ukies have no new weapons to break the lines of defense and no good ideas of how to get around them. Maybe they will try the NK tactic of tunneling under the defensive lines.
I bet they are digging now or at least thinking about it.

It might work.

And yes, the looming personnel shortages in the number of individuals and more importantly, motivated individuals is concerning. A very dark cloud on the horizon.

Are we to believe that left wing paper?

Only when it says something that agrees with my beliefs.

The Russians aren’t banking on a war breaking out in Taiwan or mid east!!?! That is highly unlikely contrary to what the media says!! They are banking on a war of attrition and patience by holding On/Out until American and European political, material and financial support runs out of steam and the both armies are in a stale mate and then by default Russian best the entire Western world in a all out economic geopolitical military conflict

No , I am not endorsing the NYT. I am commenting on the subject at hand.
The Caveat to be referenced with any news organizations writing should be....

If true, then..... x

In this regard.
Many information sources are to be looked at before determining what exactly what is the truth of any given situation. Since what the NYT is saying now has been repeated before in numerous news reports , of both the pro Ukrainian and pro Russian news in the last three weeks,
The odds are it is about 80% accurate at this point in time.

ok sport. Now try this: how many sources referenced here, at this site, for today, cite sources that you and your friends dislike, scorn, belittle. And how many sources are there that use, publish, use here places you go to, ie Info Wars, the Blaze, Breitbart, NewsMax and other trusty journalistic places? ever wonder why that is so?

Time is your friend in this matter. The sources you list are not the issue. It is who has been proven correct over time? Who has lied to you most over time

What is the outcome of a thesis, anti thesis , synthesis open source anyalysis?

Over many sources
Right now certain things have been proven in the last 30 days
A. The Ukrainians have not broken though the defensive lines.
B. Ukrainian losses have been large.

C. Now it is doubtful that they now have enough combat power to break through those lines and accomplish a robust exploration.

D Given the optempo and economies of scale of this war. It is doubtful that the
narritive of the Ukrainians winning, the russians are falling apart ..is overrated.

Given the current situation ,You come back and tell us all how this is going to play out,
Just dropping a turd and saying someone else's analysis is crap, just because you do not like it, is trash thinking and follows no logic.

The russians know that a major war now in another region would be only to their benefit. I know how these people think because I understand basic human nature. They want China to go for Taiwan and by extension dry up western aid for Ukraine. They don't want an endless war of attrition. China will go to war soon all the signs point to it. The russians are hoping it happens when they're still fighting in Ukraine.

Military, it would definitely be to the Russians advantage if the Chinese attacked Taiwan. The West would be torn between supplying two fronts. And as has been reported , The West cannot ( or will not) even support one at this time.
