BBC: Arresting Vladimir Putin in South Africa would be 'declaration of war', says Ramaphosa
Any attempt to arrest Vladimir Putin when he visits South Africa would be a declaration of war against Russia, the country's president says.
Cyril Ramaphosa made the warning with weeks to go before an international meeting happens in Johannesburg, to which the Russian president is invited.
But if Mr Putin leaves Russian soil, he will be subject to an International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant.
South Africa is an ICC signatory and should therefore help in his arrest.
Yet it has refused to honour that obligation in the past - allowing safe passage in 2015 to Sudan's then-President Omar al-Bashir who was wanted for war crimes against his own people.
Mr Putin has been invited to South Africa in August, when the country hosts a summit for members of the Brics countries - an acronym for Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
This bloc of fast-growing economies is seen by some as an alternative to the G7 group of advanced economies.

The west is quickly becoming infamous for arresting its political opponents. Evil most certainly has infiltrated our countries leadership.

January 6: The USA literally - and to this day - has a couple hundred political prisoners who were not violent, who were invited into the capitol and now for almost 2 years have not seen a lawyer, which is in direct violation of the law.
Media is being used to carpet bomb the population into oblivion.
We are being misled by something similar to operation Mockingbird. And I bet, the ruling party in power has done many more crimes, if you look at the findings to the Biden family and their proven connections (with money trails, witnesses coming forward) to China and Ukraine, where A LOT of our money is disappearing and other people - connected to this party - get rich.
I see no way forward but trials, and severe punishment for this kind of betrayal to our democracy and norms. Including death penalty. The crimes are extremely severe and the ruling party seems to be hellbent to now even arrest their political opponent, Trump.
A guaranteed way to further destabilize the country.
As I said. Death penalties should be on the table considering the depth and breadth of these crimes. It's straight up treason for personal gains. The worst crime as so many people get hurt and killed innocently to make them rich and keep them in power.
And do you remember how members of a Black gang famously - with weapons - entered the Capitol?
Nothing happened to them. No arrests, no prisons.
But the people who believed democracy is in danger, who came out to protect the country, who were let in by police and flashbanged and tear gassed and lied to, of course they have to go to prison, and tortured (not seeing anyone in isolation, not getting a lawyer etc is a modern form of torture and lawfare aimed at stifling any resistance to these tyrants.
The opposite will happen. Once they lose control over the media - and this is well underway - their lies, their theft, their murder will be shown to all. And then it's their necks. AND THEY KNOW IT.
So prepare for more tyrannical measures, they will NOT give up readily. Think of the crimes already committed, .. these are not people who will just wait for a police car to show up. They have a plan and are at it. Best is to get ahead of the game.
