Defense News: White House wants Ukraine inspector general out of defense bill
WASHINGTON ― The White House on Monday told lawmakers it opposes a provision in the House’s annual defense policy bill that would create a special inspector general for Ukraine aid, modelled after the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction.
The Ukraine inspector general was one of several provisions in the fiscal 2024 National Defense Authorization Act that the White House, in an Office of Management and Budget statement on the bill, told Congress it wants removed.
The statement also objected to several provisions in the bill related to the U.S. nuclear arsenal and addresses the Pentagon cost assessment office drawn into a debate over Navy ship procurement. The House is expected to begin voting on the FY24 NDAA as early as Wednesday.

Update: White House opposes independent oversight of Ukraine aid (RT)
WNU Editor: My prediction is that the White House will gets its way. There will be no Special Inspector General on Ukraine aid. There is simply too much corruption happening on this aid to be exposed.

Really quite simple, war over corruption over.

"My prediction is that the White House will gets its way. "
There was a brave and easy prediction, lol!
Most special prosecutors and inspector generals are politically savvy to ignore certain skeletons in the closet. So while a Ukraine inspector general might learn of past and current corruption by the Biden Crime Family, they simply would not continue inquires or report on it.
It was reported in "Pajamas" media or someplace that between 2014 and 2021 aid to Ukraine was laundered and sent back to the suburbs surrounding DC. There are a whole lot of people involved than just the Bidens, Gambinos and others. What makes you think they stopped in 2022?
what is rich are people like WNU who complain about corruption in military contracting, but do not blink an eye to one country attacking another without declaring war.
It might come as news to WNU, but a special military operation is not a formal declaration of war.
Why would an inspector general be appointed? Biden's handlers installed a man with stage 2 or 3 dementia into the Whitehouse. He now is at least at stave 4 and remains at the white house. If they can do that, they -pretty much shut down an IG before one even gets appointed.
The Biden Crime Family took 20 to 30 million dollars in bribes from Russia, China, Ukraine and Romania over the last 4 or 6 years (longer). Biden's brother James had a contract to build houses in Iraq, which goes back farther. In regards to corruption that is relatively benign compared to the other corruption. So the way it works in Robert Heinlein's Universe, china or elsewhere is that might be something the get Biden on rather than something much bigger and have the system look bad and have its moral authority questioned. DC and its media complex are keeping a lid on that news, so what is shutting down a little old IG?
Russia could come clean about its bribes to the Bidens. Sure they would suffer blowback by admitting the truth. It is unclear how well US media could sweep it under the rug, but they would try.
All that and WNU is crying about an IG. WNU has ulterior motives.
WNU: "I am going to whine about an IG"
Matthew 7:3-5
3 Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye.
part of this aid is being kicked back to the "Big Guy" no doubt, which is why the White House opposes it.
8:33 and 9:03, I don't think WNU is "whining" about an IG for Ukraine aid at all. Just posting a story about it and commenting. Just a suggestion from me, but if you don't like WN coverage you can always go elsewhere. You won't be missed much.
WNU is whining. Much like a newspaper editor or published of the yellow journalist or otherwise he selects some stories and omits others.
Has WNU had story about a Russian IG? No? but several about an American one. why? We all know the reason. WNU would be pushing up daisies.
Is the big guy getting a cut nowadays? I doubt it. There is too much scrutiny and TPTB have told him the only compensation he is getting is that they are flying cover for hunter and the rest of Biden family, which is to their mutual benefit.
Is someone getting a cut. Undoubtedly. It might be as mundane as someone buying more stock before a decision is made about what weapons to send to Ukraine.
Is that wrong? Yes. But pareto analysis would show that is the least of concerns. Illicit stock buying is not a concern, but diverting aid is. Should be hanging offense.
Is there corruption in Russia. Before the war Prigozhin had 100% profit on his catering business. Is he the only one? Doubtful.
My ranking is
#1 Losing the war
#2 Theft of aid (money or weapons)
#3 War profiteering or diverting small proportions (compared to #2) of aid.
If you want to restrict or not talk about which weapons needed by Ukraine and drag your feet on which ones to provide, I do not want hear about corruption or profiteering.
Statute of limitations for profiteering can be quite long. There is no problem there. That could wait until after the war. But tackling that problem now or after the war is for naught without a political victory and Russia has made that hard to achieve.
How? Russia does not support one side or the other. It instigates internecine warfare. Truthfully, this warfare would happen anyways, but Russia throws gasoline on it. So as long as this warfare continues and Democrats are on top, there will be no corruption investigations other than pro forma ones for show. So WNU can huff and he can puff and all he will do is get red in the face.
Skoda,
You are in rare form today.
All the junk above. No comment
Here is what is going on. Given the outcome of the the special IG SIGAR reports from Afghanistan, uncle Joe does not want this for any money in the world.
It would be a long term commitment, subject to congressional inquiry and NGO freedom of information act filings.
We all know that the corruption levels in Ukraine are off the charts.
So you would be nuts to authorize this type of action
"All the junk above ..."
I worked in contracting in a warzone. There was a bidding process and concrete was still expensive by 3 to 10 times. The person, who usually won the concrete contracts, was a Turkish woman not an American. As much as possible the locals were contracted to assist the local company.
But then Obozo got elected and ...
$1.5B contract in Iraq for Biden’s little brother exposes Obama ahead of debate
Likely there would be other corruption. The US could withstand the scrutiny. It withstood the Afghan IG report. Proof? It is still here. So that is not the issue. The issue is that the Democrat party, the Bidens and others may not.
I did see corruption just a smidge of corruption. The brass broke up a project into 4 pieces to get around reporting requirements. BFD. We needed it and we got it. It saved maintenance and lives.
"Peter Schweizer, president of the Government Accountability Institute and author of Profiles in Corruption: Abuse of Power by America’s Progressive Elite, detailed the conflicts of interest related to James Biden’s position with HillStone International given Joe Biden’s oversight of ostensibly humanitarian government-funded development projects in Iraq during his tenure as vice president.
Kevin Justice, founder and president of Hillstone International, visited the White House in 2010 and met with Michele Smith, a top aide to then-Vice President Joe Biden who worked as a liaison to “global government officials and business executives.”
James Biden had no background in construction or international development when he joined the company. Hillstone International’s company profile of James Biden touted his familial connection to Joe Biden as a professional attribute."
Biden seized $3.5 billion meant for 9/11 victims and diverted it to a ‘trust fund’ for Afghan
1207 is right. why open a HUGE can of worms when you can avoid it.
unless congress does it, this is not going anywhere.
But it should be done. Maybe they will stop sending money down a rat hole.
but then again, these are the same guys who had us fight in Afghanistan for 20 years and then pull out as losers. trillions gone....gone.....with nothing to show for it.
