Moon of Alabama could be an American. How can we tell? I would like to see his curriculum vitae. He many not have military experience, But it does not mean that he can't analyze better than Milley or anyone of us.
All we do know is that he has been blogging about 2 decades, is supposedly former civil service, and an arch liberal.
I for one know more about Simon Black and the owner of Zerohedge than I do the person, who is behind Moon of Alabama.

You could use Larry from GWP. He is against the war and is a former CIA analyst. At least we know who he is. He e also has a different POV than say the Biden administration or the Pentagon on Ukraine.
