Ukraine Claims To Have Destroyed A Russian S-400 Air Defense System In Crimea

Warzone/The Drive: Ukraine’s Spy Agency Claims Strike On Key S-400 SAM System In Crimea

Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence Directorate today released video it says shows a Russian S-400 air defense system being obliterated in Crimea.

A day after its boss made an ominous threat toward Russian occupation forces in Crimea, Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence Directorate says it destroyed an S-400 Triumpf surface-to-air missile system there.

The attack took place around 10 a.m. local time near the village of Olenivka on Cape Tarkhankut, the GUR announced on its Telegram channel. “As a result of the explosion, the installation itself, the missiles installed on it, and the personnel were completely destroyed.”

A video released by the GUR opens with a drone’s eye view of what it claims is the S-400 system. It then explodes in a bright yellow flash, followed by a huge column of blackish-gray smoke pouring skyward and white plumes of smoke darting out from the struck system. However, there does not seem to be any visual indication of what caused the blast.

WNU Editor: If true, this is a major hit for the Russian military. The S-400 is Russia's most prized air-defense systems.

Interestingly. Just a day before two US drones were chased over the Black Sea when they were approaching Crimea .... Russia scrambles jets to intercept two drones over Black Sea, Moscow says (France 24). I have noticed that every-time a US drone is in the area, Ukraine launches an attack on a Russian asset in Crimea a day or two later.

I have also been told that all traffic on the Crimea Bridge is stopped when US drones are flying in the Black Sea. The worry is that Ukraine intelligence may have a car traveling on the bridge that will help triangulate coordinates for a future attack.

I've seen a video of the moment of impact but AFAIK we're still unclear on how it was done. If it was a Stormshadow missile then that's our first real win against an S-400. If it was just a small drone launched from within Russian territory it's still a big win for Ukraine but it wouldn't represent a definitive ability to pierce their air defenses on-demand. I would be very curious to know which it is.

yes the drones are going in for pre-mission recon. Standard operating procedure.

They also go up when the mission is in play.

BTW. the sf attack was probably another reason these assets were on station.
