U.S. And French Officials Differ On How To Reverse The Coup In Niger

Politico: France, U.S. relations grow tense over Niger coup

French officials are frustrated that their American counterparts have been willing to engage with the junta that overthrew Niger’s president.

The coup in Niger is injecting fresh tension into the France-U.S. alliance.

The two countries are at odds over how to respond to the ouster of the West African country’s president in July. France is refusing to diplomatically engage with the junta and strongly supports a regional body that has threatened military intervention. The U.S. has dispatched an envoy to meet with the junta leadership and held back from officially declaring the takeover a coup — insisting there’s still a negotiated way to restore democracy.

WNU Editor: It appears that the majority of ECOWAS governments are onboard to launch a military intervention against Niger (see video above). The French are also onboard. But to succeed everyone will need to rely on US logistics and transport, and if the above Politico article is accurate, the US is looking for an alternative solution.

The US doesn't want a major war in Africa distracting it. The french have other goals. The US is walking a very tight tightrope hoping to avoid multiple wars at the same time. They don't have the money for that.

The US will be stretched thin on four different fronts. But look at who’s running the country, do you expect any smart decisions to be made?

France would be perfectly fine with the country turning into a complete nightmare like Libya. And as bad as I think they are, the people in the State dept recognize thats a really bad look for a democratic president to do that again just so France can play around in the ashes.

3 comments so far all by Russians trying 3 different angles, but with one singular goal. That is to convince as many Americans as they can that America should not intervene.

If Wagner is there and Wagner is behind the coups then the US has to go in.

If France is really serious about the US being on bard, they should offer Joe Biden a house on the Riviera coast. Joe bought a DuPont mansion an was supported by DuPont to get elected Senator and has been very good to DuPont.

There is one small point, but this is key. The French government has to outbid the Russian government for Joe's charms.
