VOA: China's Top Diplomat Arrives in Washington for Talks Ahead of Potential Biden-Xi Meeting
State Department — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi arrived in Washington Thursday for meetings with senior U.S. officials on bilateral and regional security issues as the two countries aim to maintain open communication channels.
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken is hosting Wang at the State Department for a working dinner after meetings in the late afternoon. White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan is holding talks with him at Blair House, near the White House, Friday.

As to what is my take .... I am skeptical.
There is little common ground between the two governments. They differ on Taiwan, trade, the Israel - Hamas war, the Russia - Ukraine war, the South China Sea, and more importantly, they do not trust each other. Sighhh ..... but talking is better than not talking.

This is a serious talk but it is not serious talks.
The Chinese want to see what they can get for free. They probably do not have their hopes up and a fishing.
They are sounding Joe out. They are taking the measure of the man or the cabal behind him.
Zerohedge has good stuff and then there is Simon black Man of Mystery (Bullshit Artists more like and the Strategic Culture Foundation. WNU is kind of like Zerohedge.
One thing WNU has commented time and again is that high level meetings have a lot of prep work and there is usually an outcome, where the principals sign a treaty or something. the help has worked it all out ahead of time.
This worries me because there was no groundwork ahead of time. So yes I think the Chinese are on a fishing expedition or taking the measure of Biden and his lackeys Blinkered and Jake the Snake.
Blinky and Snake can have their measure taken a few times in the past year. That is true. But now they are home at Washington and they feel comfortable so that might be useful to gage.

Inside contacts tell me that Minister Wang Yi will privately remind President Biden about his son Hunter's reprehensible behavior with underage Chinese girls in the past, and how China has shocking video tapes of those encounters. Hunter Biden is a huge liability for the US, yet Grandpa Joe continues to protect him.
