Portsmouth News: HMS Queen Elizabeth: Royal Navy flagship under Nato command for first time as she leads UK Carrier Strike Group

The Royal Navy’s biggest warship is under Nato command for the first time as she resumes her deployment.

HMS Queen Elizabeth is leading the UK Carrier Strike Group (UKCSG) and will operate across a vast area of multiple seas. The task force also comprises of Type 23 frigate HMS Kent, Type 45 destroyers HMS Diamond, various aircraft including F-35B Lightning jets, Wildcat and Merlin helicopters and other support ships.

Nato’s aim was to create a potent task group which is able to operate across a large area, from the length and breadth of the Mediterranean and north to the Baltic Sea. HMS Queen Elizabeth’s crew have a full week of tasks ahead of them.

Update: UK flagship under NATO command for the first time (Royal Navy)

WNU Editor: The 3 aircraft carriers in questions are the HMS Queen Elizabeth, Italy's ITS Cavour, and Spains ESP Juan Carlos. The key line in the above report is this ....

.... The Italian ITS Cavour and Spanish ESP Juan Carlos have been stationed to the Mediterranean, allowing Nato to protect a vast area of airspace, waterways and territory. Warships from 21 nations are deployed on the activity– codenamed Neptune Strike.

They are being commanded by Nato’s Naval and Striking Support Forces, a battle staff under the Supreme Allied Commander Europe – which is tasked with rapidly planning and executing operations wherever needed. When Royal Navy assets are under Nato’s command, they carry out tasks of vital importance to the alliance for a set period of time.

This type of deployment and centralized command is rare. NATO is preparing for something big.

"The Russians have introduced a new sniper rifle for the second time since invading Ukraine. The most recent one is the MT-566, which is produced by a small firm and offers a unique feature; it only uses Western ammunition."

Sad, Russia is producing crap for ammo.

Maybe NATO is trying to deter something bigger. Its good practice and training with the multiple navies of the NATO signatories. With that many air groups, subs and ships circling the Med it will give Russia and Iran pause. Taiwan, Japan, RoK, Vietnam, Australia and The Philippines should pay close attention to these deplyments.

I wonder if any of these things have anything in common:

1) The USMC commandant cancelled the Marine Corp Ball this year because of "exceptional operational commitments" The Marines have the southern flank of NATO as their responsibilities.

2) The Ukrainians are beginning to lose their financial and military hardware support. Without EU and USA monies to pay pensions and civil job workers, (police fire hospital engineers), and going into winter, and beginning to have doubts and morale problems, their front could collapse.

3) The Russians are considering the end of diplomatic relations with the USA.

4) These gatherings of Nato forces, preparing.

5)The prepositioning of USA troops and planes into and around northern Europe.

6) the meeting with Xi in San Francisco.

Anyways, I guess what makes me wonder, is the USA/EU/Nato countries going to let Ukraine collapse? are they gonna bend a knee to Putin? The blob can't make congress give money to Ukraine or do it in a timely manner and the already approved support is about spent.

I hate to have to think on these things.

I will add on either to your list. the US Army just shanghaied 400-800 NCOs into forced recruiting duty to raise their numbers. this is unheard of.

All the things you said, it is like watching a decision matrix develop. Not a good thing either.

The west knows and admits the Ukrainians will not win. So what now? They let them loose? The Russians are not going to stop. the west and the Ukrainians can talk stalemate all they want, but the Russians have a vote in this mess and probably will not stop until the whole of the Donbas is taken (to include Kharkov) and proceed to retake the southern region all the way to the Moldova border.

NATO will not intervene, the alliance has too many weaknesses , not enough ammo and the US is concerned with China. Forces have shifted. The US troops in Poland (the 101st) are now in Jordan.

The wild card is now Israel and Turkey. How much farther will the Arabs let the Israelis go and will the Israelis go into Lebanon. The turks are not happy and it is significant that the Iranians and Arab states are now talking...not a little but a lot.

buy more food, keep you gas tank full and pray for the best.

we shall see.

Russian fuckhead, you cannot shanghai 400 to 800 NCO. It is not legally possible. They enlisted. They signed on the dotted line. They were re-assigned to another military occupational specialty (MOS) according to the needs of the service.

I had 2 top choices when joining. Frontline and intel. I got neither. recruiter suggested engineering. I did not get that. I was told take the 4th choice or come back in 6 months and try gain.

If you think of how utterly stupid and arrogant Russians are, that billet might be the best thing that ever happened in their lives.

Is this the buildup for the start of the new Iranian failed state situation?

Iran is not a failed state. It is no more a failed state than North Korea. It is however living far below its potential.

But it is all about maximizing the profit of the leader(s) and not the nation.

Pretty much for most if not all nations. That is what my freshman classmates believed. I should have tape recorded the conversation. Figure they are 18 and already believe that. Figure that they are mostly if not 100% right.

I'm obviously talking about the situation after Iran gets hit, if that's the goal for all of this deployments.

Moron.

You never have been in the military so you have no clue. They got shanghaied , meaning they got a surprise notification of change in duty status that was totally unexpected to a position that sucks. They got screwed

And here is the secret you would Never know because you never served. NO ONE wants to go to Recruiting Duty. It sucks, real bad, and it is high pressure.

Everything is about quotas and making your numbers. Make your quota you are a star. Fail to make quota and you suck.

It is so bad ... here is an example

You are a Staff SGT, with 3 tours in a combat zone, Former member of the Regiment and have 2 silver stars and a Purple Heart.

You do not make your quota, you are automatically a piece of crap.

But If you are a Staff SGT, you are over weight , barley pass the PT test, look like a crumpled beach ball in uniform and a slime ball, but you make your quota, you are now a stellar soldier and hero.

That is how bad that system is.

533 stick to things you know like pickle sucking or creating a new pronouns for yourself.

Your ignorance on military matters is blinding.
