WNU Editor: John Mearsheimer's analysis on how the Russia - Ukraine war ends mirrors my own with one exception. I agree that this war is going to drag on for a long time and the cost to Ukraine (and for Russia) will be many magnitudes greater than what it has been so far. But it will end not in a frozen conflict. The war will end with someone on the Ukraine side being forced to sign a document that will unconditionally accept all of Moscow's terms and conditions.

Good film clip. Nothing that has not been stated before on this blog...as a matter of fact, stated in the last week on this blog.
The big ugly , of course, in finding peace, is the perfidiousness of the west in Negotiating in bad faith with the Minsk agreements. Any personal of intellect would never trust those people again.
The west intentionally painted themselves into a corner with diplomatic bad faith, just like the Nord stream sabotage , painted them into an economic corner.
What is the west's end game? Who knows? But in viewing their past bad behavior, it s probably anything but good.

The best hope for America is prayer. As a born again Christian I strongly believe in this. From a leadership point of view it would be helpful is former president Trump could return to office along with people who support his policies and will work to implement them. If this could happen, wr could look forward to more sensible foreign policy.
I agree the most likely outcome is Ukrainian surrender given existing terrible Western leadership. But a shift to Ukrainian defense in depth, acceptance of loss of territory, greatly expanded production and supply of mobile long range artillery and rapid buildup of Ukrainian production could make a victory too costly for Russia.

"We shall see" as you say. As the editor likes to say, "here is an easy prediction." Here's one. Our leadership class will do ANYTHING and EVERYTHING they can to avoid the outcome the editor predicts. Unless someone can stop them the use of nuclear weapons by the US is a real possibility here.

President Zenlinski on a TV broadcast last night announced that the Ukraine will be adopting a Defensive strategy.
This is being done because due to heavy losses in men and materials , he said Ukraine no longer has the ability to launch a major offensive.
Was the translation correct ? IDK. But combined with the university student talk he gave and how he said at that meeting the donbass would not be retaken, it seems he has finally turned a corner on his thought process.

On this day (Nov 30th) 84 years ago, Soviet-Russia launched an unprovoked full scale war against Finland. It would become known as the “Winter War”. The Soviet plans was to capture all of Finland within 2 weeks, but as many other plans conceived in Moscow this one as well disintegrated when colliding with reality.
Finland, though being totally outmanned and outgunned, repelled the initial invasion and inflicted devastating losses among Soviet ranks. Especially the Battle of Suomussalmi, which ended in an overwhelming Finish victory, crossed Moscow’s plan and embarrassed the largest army in the world of this time.
However, Finland was basically left alone. Neither the Western allies, nor Germany, which was mainly honoring the Hitler-Stalin pact, came decisively to help. Volunteers from Scandinavia, primarily from Sweden, made the bulk of foreign help, which was however small compared to Soviet huge reserves. Finland resisted the full occupation thanks to its valiant resilience of its people but was eventually compelled to sign a harsh treaty which cost them 12% of Finish territory.
84 years later Russia hasn’t changed much and proves once again to be an untrustworthy neighbor with imperial ambitions, this time in Ukraine. Though the Western support is different than back in 1939 and Russia not even close to what the Soviet Union once was, it is still baffling to see how mistakes in the West are repeated. Instead of a decisive and an all-deterrent commitment in helping an attacked country, a lot of timid steps and statements can be observed, just like in 1939. Ukraine certainly repelled the initial invasion and even cleared vast areas from Russian presence, but the lack and slow pace of foreign help only stretched the war which could have been ended long ago if delivery of military goods and production of ammunition would have been launched one day one. 21 months later Russia has been severely weakened but is still capable to wage war. Instead of taking of the gloves and going all-in, certain elements in the West still cling to their failed appeasement tactic which led to this problem in the first place.
It is obvious that none of the traditional attempts to appease Moscow led to anything but escalation and suffering. Only a decisive strike against all Russian troops in occupied Ukraine, supported by massive military deliveries from the West can end this war in an acceptable way. It is still time to learn from the mistakes, from those in 1939 and those 2022/2023.

Ukraine still has reserves. They are kept in reserve to counter Russian offensives.
At least Ukraine is keeping Russia busy so they cannot fully fund Hamas and hostage taking.

About the defensive works. Defense works require less people. It means you can skim some off to put somewhere else.
