WNU Editor: The attack by Hamas on October 7th was different in many ways(the size of the attack and the high civilian casualty numbers and kidnapped Israelis). Israel's declaration of war while making it a commitment to completely wipe out Hamas was also new and unprecedented.
Bottom line. Israel is facing urban and attrition warfare coupled with astronomical casualty numbers. And when completed, Gaza is going to look like what Mosul looked like after the Iraqi army was successful in wiping out ISIS.
So yes. Israel’s long war ahead will be nothing like what it’s faced before

People have suggested pumping water into the tunnels systems. They went over the logistics or running pipe to the Mediterranean. they went over pump rates achievable mina and max. They went over how long it would take to fill the tunnels. They said if you filled a tunnel that was 6 to 7 feet high with a depth of water 1 or 2 feet of water the tunnels would have to be abandoned and worse than that the tunnels would become unstable and unusable permanently.

It is a matter of how often and to what degree. It also matters, if it was official policy, which it was for the Russians, Germans and Americans (& British).
The American and British policy was to "allow" German POWs die of exposure in 1945.
Experience does vary. I met one Afrika Korps vet who was captured by the Americans and said it was the best thing that happened to him. That was earlier in the war without so many POWs to take care of.

Several days ago I saw an article that said IDF listed their dead at 328. I thought if the Israelis have lost that many dead in Gaza since their invasion, this was going to be bad for the Israelis. Then I remembered that several hundred IDF troops were killed on Oct 7th. So, I do not know if that 328 included those troops. Anyway, the Jews are not use to these losses.
The Israelis radically redesigned their tanks to lessen tank crew losses. They moved the engine from the back to the front in the Merkava. An engine block is cheaper than 1 or 2 lives.
