Reuters: Gaza war will go on for months, Israel's military chief says

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israel's war on Hamas in Gaza will likely go on for many months, the country's military chief said on Tuesday.

"The war will go on for many months and we will employ different methods to maintain our achievements for a long time," Chief of the General Staff Herzi Halevi told reporters in a televised statement on the Gaza border.

"There are no magic solutions, there are no short cuts in dismantling a terrorist organization, only determined and persistent fighting," said Halevi. "We will reach Hamas' leadership too, whether it takes a week or if it takes months."

Israel vowed to annihilate Hamas after its fighters burst into Israel on Oct. 7, killing 1,200 people and taking 240 hostages. Its air, sea and ground offensive in Gaza has since killed nearly 21,000 Palestinians, according to authorities.

WNU Editor: I do not share Chief of the General Staff Herzi Halevi's analysis on the war ending in a few months. I see the opposite. Even if Israel completely conquers the Gaza strip, the guerilla war and the violence that it will spawn will not let-up.

Here is Netanyahu's appointed finance minister, Bezalel Smotrich.

He delivers a speech behind a podium which displays "Greater Israel".

"Greater Israel" encompasses the entirety of Palestine, the entirety of Jordan and parts of Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, Turkey and Saudi Arabia.

These people do not want to stop at Palestine.

Netenyahu believes that Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, Turkey and Saudi Arabia will just shuffle their feet and watch their allies get taken out one by one. I wouldn't be so sure.

WNU; It depends on how completely Israel destroys Hamas and anyone that breathes support for them. I will use the German Nazis destruction after WW2. They tried to continue the war with Guerilla fighters but the destruction of that political ideology was so complete that an American cpl, leading a patrol who captured a nazi guerilla fighter had the authority to conduct a summary execution. subsequent German authorities outlawed anything pro Nazi or Hitler. Japan was the same way. The Bushido, as a political ideology, was crushed and only a liberal democratic institution was allowed. in many, (but not all) cases of American wars with the Indians, there would only be peace when the fight/fighting age men were gone. adapt or die. The indians that went to the reservations were completely eviscerated with no means but to live under the thumb of Americans. So, if Israel crushes Hamas, they then must remake Gaza into a true liberal democracy. Israel must vet the returning populations, control the schools and outlaw any speech that calls for the Genocide and abolishment of the Jews. if Palestinians can abide with that, they can come back and live peacefully alongside the Jews. Let's see how they finish this.
