RFE: Ukrainian Air Force Claims Destruction Of Russian Ship In Crimea; Moscow Confirms Missile Strike

FEODOSIA, Ukraine -- Ukraine's air force hit a major naval port on the Russian-occupied Crimean Peninsula, and claimed a Russian naval landing ship docked there was destroyed.

Ukraine’s military said in a post to Telegram on December 26 that tactical aviation units fired cruise missiles at the port of Feodosia, on the eastern side of the Black Sea peninsula, around 3 a.m. local time, hitting the ship, the Novocherkassk.

Explosions reverberated throughout the city, waking up residents, setting off car alarms, and breaking storefront and building windows some distance away from the port.

Well played on the Ukrainian side.

But you cannot help wonder why they continue to hit these targets of opportunity which are not non-/strategic/operational tactical targets in Crimea when the guys on the ground could use this fire support on the battlefield. Like a Brigade HQ getting hit, or a unit staging area or an ammo depot.

Sinking a ship is nice, but how did that effect the situation on the ground?

Yes political points are made , but in reality, no effect on DC or London or Krynky or adveeka.

But it does re-enforce the fact to the Russians....

If you do not take both of the southern Oblasts, Crimea and Sevastopol will never be safe
