My Comment: An operating budget of $63 million per year?!?!?! I am sorry .... but this is more about making money and not remembering the 3,000 Americans who died on 9/11.

9/11 Museum Opens to Families With Dedication Ceremony -- NBC New York

The 9/11 museum at ground zero opened to victims' families, first responders and recovery workers Thursday as President Obama recalled the heroism and sacrifices made by those who died in the attacks more than 12 years ago.

Obama told an audience of victims' relatives, survivors, first responders and people who worked on the cleanup that it was an "honor for us to join in your memories, to recall and to reflect, but above all to reaffirm the true spirit of 9/11 -- love, compassion, sacrifice -- and to enshrine it forever in the heart of our nation."

"All who come here will find it to be a profound and moving experience," he added.

Iconic Ground Zero Photo Was Nearly Excluded From Museum For Being Too 'Rah-Rah' American -- New York Post

This iconic picture of firefighters raising the stars and stripes in the rubble of Ground Zero was nearly excluded from the 9/11 Memorial Museum — because it was “rah-rah” American, a new book says.

Michael Shulan, the museum’s creative director, was among staffers who considered the Tom Franklin photograph too kitschy and “rah-rah America,” according to “Battle for Ground Zero” (St. Martin’s Press) by Elizabeth Greenspan, out next month.

“I really believe that the way America will look best, the way we can really do best, is to not be Americans so vigilantly and so vehemently,” Shulan said.

Dispute Over Costs Delays Opening of 9/11 Museum -- New York Times

A dispute between Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo over the $1 billion museum at ground zero has dragged on for so long that the museum will not open in time for the 11th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks — or even for the next one.

Aides to Mr. Bloomberg and Mr. Cuomo have so far been unable to resolve their differences over which government agencies will pay the operating costs of the museum, which is intended to document the terrorist attacks of 2001 and honor the nearly 3,000 victims. The two sides also remain at odds over who will have oversight of the museum and the surrounding memorial.
