From YouTube: At 9:00 a.m. on February 19, 1945, the soldiers of the United States Marine Corps 5th Division, H Company lowered themselves down rope cargo nets into landing crafts rocking in five-foot seas. They were less than a mile from the shore of the remote South Pacific island of Iwo Jima. H Company was made up mostly of 18 to 20 year-old boys who had been training for this day for over a year.

Chaos, running rows and f-word confrontations over foreign policy are revealed in a new fly-on-the-wall documentary about the last days of the Obama White House.

Senior officials give the film unvarnished accounts of a 'whole drama' over how Syria was dealt with – and how there was nothing to force the Iranians to abide by their terms of the deal supposed to stop them from getting nuclear weapons.

In 'The Final Year' Ben Rhodes, Obama's deputy national security adviser for strategic communications, also says that it took 'too long' to get the measure of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The documentary, shot by director Greg Barker and produced by Magnolia Pictures, followed Obama and his cabinet during his final 12 months in office.

Michael Ware spent seven harrowing years covering the Iraq War – and he has the scars to prove it

"I had a couple before, to settle myself," says Michael Ware, sipping a beer at an Irish pub in Manhattan. It's just after 3 p.m. on a Friday and the bar is lined with haggard-looking figures. Ware, who spent seven years covering the war in Iraq for Time and CNN, fits right in. His dark-blue sweater has a bullet-size hole in the chest. Black slacks cover the leg wounds he suffered during his sixth IED attack, and he still has the scruffy beard that one soldier referred to as Ware's "four-o'clock-the-next-day shadow." Desmond Garrison, a cameraman who worked with Ware in Iraq, joins him today at the bar. "When I first met Michael, in the spring of '07, he was relatively stable," Garrison says. "By the fall, he was spending more and more time alone in his room."

The Push To Get American Civilians To View A New, Gritty War Documentary -- Dan Lamonthe, Washington Post

It’s sometime late in “The Hornet’s Nest” when we see what war can do to a man. The film is filled with gritty footage of soldiers and Marines engaged in fierce firefights with the Taliban and other insurgent fighters, but it’s the memorial service at the end that jars. Grown men — muscular, dirty and crestfallen — sob as they recall the memory of six U.S. soldiers who were killed in a fierce, prolonged firefight.

It’s one of the most gripping moments of the film, which was released in May and is still making its way through theaters across the country. It follows a father-and-son team of journalists, Mike and Carlos Boettcher, through Afghanistan as they embed with both U.S. Marines and Army soldiers in Afghanistan.

A true-life horror story, Dan Krauss' chilling war-is-hell expose is must-see viewing.

A true-life horror story, Dan Krauss’ docu examines the self-styled “Kill Team,” an infantry platoon that intentionally murdered innocent Afghani civilians, surreptitiously dropping weapons alongside the corpses to claim their victims were terrorists. Krauss deliberately maintains a very narrow focus, limiting his subjects to a few of the soldiers implicated and those involved in their trial, with no extraneous experts, activists or commentators intruding. In this closed-off world, the logical illogic of the soldiers’ actions becomes eerily clear as their Army training and their role as “peacekeepers” violently conflict. Many will regard this chilling war-is-hell expose as must-see viewing.

To 'Hell And Back,' With A Marine And His Wife -- NPR

One Marine had been killed. A dozen had collapsed from heat exhaustion. It was 130 degrees, and their supplies of water were running out.

"That's when Sgt. Nathan Harris handed me his last bottle of water," says Danfung Dennis, a filmmaker and acclaimed combat photographer. "We first met on Machine Gun Hill."

With two deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan under his belt, the 25-year-old Harris was "an exceptional leader," Dennis tells NPR's Renee Montagne — the Marine chosen to be first off the chopper in an assault on a Taliban stronghold that would become a brutal firefight. "'He was this courageous platoon leader who was at the tip of the spear of this entire battle."
