DW: Germany and Canada set to sign hydrogen deal 

Chancellor Scholz and Prime Minister Trudeau were set to travel to Newfoundland, the future home of a green hydrogen plant, to sign the agreement. German energy companies have already agreed to import Canadian hydrogen. 

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau were set to attend an economic conference in Toronto on Tuesday. They were expected to travel to Newfoundland to sign deals for Germany to import green hydrogen from Canada. 

The trip to Canada, Scholz's first as chancellor, comes as Germany looks for ways to reduce its reliance on Russian gas. 

At a press briefing in Toronto Tuesday, Scholz said Canada was the partner of choice, as Germany moves away from Russian energy imports at "warp speed."

WNU Editor: German Chancellor Olaf Scholz's trip to Canada was a waste of time. He wants Canadian natural gas but there are no surplus pipelines to carry the natural gas that Germany needs from Canada's energy rich western provinces to Canada's eastern ports. 

And as for this hydrogen deal. 

Nothing but talk and vague promises that maybe in a couple of years it will be feasible to ship Canadian hydrogen to Germany. My prediction. Another green program for the Canadian government to pump money that it does not have on the hope that it will replace fossil fuels.

OTTAWA – After being condemned by Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the federal government’s decision to suspend sanctions against Russia to allow the export of a gas-pipeline component prompted an international Ukrainian group to take legal action on Tuesday. 

The federal Liberal government relented to pressure from the German government to send a turbine, which had been undergoing maintenance in Montreal, back to Russia where it can be installed into Russia’s Nord Stream pipeline, which carries natural gas to Europe.

WNU Editor: When I first heard this story last night on the news I said to myself that if they proceed with this in the courts the Europeans, in particular the Germans, are going to have a massive problem. 

Well guess what. 

These Canadian legal challenges are proceeding and are going to create a crisis in Europe, and ultimately act against Western interests.

Canada faces a tough choice this weekend between angering Germany and offending Ukraine as it ponders the fate of a large turbine that has been undergoing repairs in the workshops of Siemens Energy Canada. 

The turbine normally drives gas through the Nord Stream One pipeline that runs from Russia to Germany. Last month, while undergoing scheduled maintenance at a Siemens Energy facility in Montreal, the turbine was caught up in sanctions the Trudeau government brought against its owner, Russian oil and gas giant Gazprom.
