Was Ukraine's Commander-in-Chief Valerii Zaluzhnyi Wounded In A Missile Strike Two Weeks Ago?

WNU Editor: For the past week I have been hearing a lot of reports and rumors that Ukraine's Commander-in-Chief Valerii Zaluzhnyi was wounded in a Russian missile strike. Apparently this missile strike occurred in early May, a few days after the Ukraine drone attack on the Kremlin.

Here is a summary of what I have been hearing .... Exclusive/Classified: General Zaluzhny Seriously Wounded in Bakhmut (The Intel Drop).

I do not know if Zaluzhny was/is wounded and/or killed. But I do know that Zaluzhnyi skipped a critical NATO meeting on May 10 (link here), and he has not made any public appearances since then.

He had a phone conversation with top US General Milley a few days ago, but that was only done by phone with no video link (link here).

Knowing that morale would collapse if reports that Zeluzhnyi was seriously wounded and/or killed were to spread (and they are spreading), the Ukraine Defense Ministry made a public statement today calling reports that General Zaluzhny was wounded and/or killed as Russian disinformation/propaganda .... Russia spreads false claims about "disappearance" of Ukraine's Commander-in-Chief in light of tensions in Bakhmut (Ukrainska Pravda).

I say why make a public statement? Just make a 30 second video of him somewhere talking about an event that everyone knows is current. This would kill all rumors and speculation immediately.

But the Ukraine government and Defense Ministry  are not doing it.

So what is happening?

My gut tells me that he is OK. That he is focused on the war and he does not want to be distracted.

But it is odd that he has made himself sparse in the past few weeks. Even to Western allies who are critical to Ukraine's war effort. And he has been completely silent on the battle and fall of Bakhmut. Something is amiss.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko Says 'Apocalypse' Scenario Possible This Winter

Jerusalem Post/Reuters: Kyiv mayor says 'apocalypse' scenario possible this winter, but urges no panic

Residents should be prepared, but there was presently no need to evacuate as conditions remained stable.

Kyiv's mayor warned on Wednesday of an "apocalypse" scenario for the Ukrainian capital this winter if Russian air strikes on infrastructure continue but said there was no need for residents to evacuate now, though they should be ready to do so.

"Kyiv might lose power, water, and heat supply. The apocalypse might happen, like in Hollywood films, when it's not possible to live in homes considering the low temperature," Mayor Vitali Klitschko told Reuters in an interview.

WNU Editor: The mayor is repeating what all my friends/contacts/and my one familiy member who made the decision to stay in Kyiv are saying. There is not enough heated shelters to take in all 3.6 million residents of the city and surrounding regions.

As to the mayor urging everyone not to panic. Sighhh .... if I was stuck in Kyiv right now I would be panicking.

Russian President Putin Says Threat Of Nuclear War Is Rising

Daily Mail: Putin says risk of nuclear war is 'rising' but insists Moscow has not 'gone mad' in televised meeting with officials who were warned 'not to upset him' with tough questions about the war in Ukraine

* The Russian despot boasted that his country had the most 'advanced weapons'

* But he also insisted the Kremlin views its nuclear arsenal as a deterrent

* He was speaking during a televised meeting of Russia's 'Human Rights Council'

Vladimir Putin warned today that the risk of nuclear war is 'rising' but insisted Moscow has not 'gone mad' during a televised meeting with officials.

The Russian despot boasted that his country had the most 'advanced weapons' in its arsenal, but claimed the Kremlin sees its own nuclear weapons purely as a deterrent.

His comments come after months of speculation that the likelihood of Russia using nuclear weapons in Ukraine was rising, as his forces suffer increasingly embarrassing defeats in the field.

There have also been fears Putin may resort to using a dirty bomb and chemical weapons in an attempt to swing the balance in his favour.

Reuters: Ukrainian force begins evacuating from last Mariupol stronghold

KYIV/MARIUPOL, Ukraine (Reuters) -The force holed up in the last Ukrainian stronghold in the besieged port of Mariupol began evacuating on Monday, appearing to cede control of the city to Russia after months of bombardment.

Five buses carrying troops from the Azovstal steelworks arrived in the Russian-controlled town of Novoazovsk late on Monday, some 32 kilometres (20 miles) to the east, a Reuters witness said.

Some of the evacuated troops were wounded and carried out of the buses on stretchers. Ukrainian Deputy Defence Minister Anna Malyar said 53 were taken to a hospital.

It was not immediately clear how many troops were aboard the buses. Malyar said 211 other troops were taken to another site. Some 600 troops were believed to have been inside the steel plant.

WNU Editor: There was no military point to stay in the steel plant. These Ukrainian soldiers have been surrounded for weeks, and their supplies had run out. The only question that remains unanswered is .... are there any Ukrainian soldiers left in this steel plant.

Russia - Ukraine Talks End In Istanbul. No Ceasefire Announced

RFE: Ukraine-Russia Talks Show Signs Of Progress, Moscow Pledges To Ease Up

Russia and Ukraine appeared to make progress in their first face-to-face talks in more than two weeks, with Moscow saying it was scaling down its military operations around Kyiv and northern Ukraine, while Ukraine said it would accept being neutral.

Delegations from the two sides held talks in Istanbul on March 29 as Russia, more than a month into its unprovoked invasion, continued to encounter stiff resistance from Ukrainian forces, which made gains in some areas by retaking ground on the outskirts of the capital region.

WNU Editor: This is a first small step, but these talks still have a long way to go before some agreement is reached.

On the Ukraine side they have accepted on some intellectual level that they will never be a member of NATO and have offered some proposals on being neutral. But from what I am reading and hearings, the Ukraine government has offered proposals that in my opinion the Russian government will not accept. I expect Moscow's official response in the coming days.

Both sides are also far apart on issues like .... the Ukraine military, the status of Donbas, the status of Crimea, and the status of the Russian language in Ukraine. I still see no common ground between the two sides on these points. And there is the issue of trust, which is completely non-existent between the two sides.

In the next meeting I expect some agreement on humanitarian corridors and local ceasefires in northern Ukraine, but the big battles will still rage on in eastern Ukraine until the Kremlin's military and strategic goals have been reached.
